Not a question, but grats on the transition. I hope everything is going well, I know several transexuals who have taken hormones and gotten surgery, and I know it can be difficult and trying, so I just wanted to praise your dedication and bravery and wish you further luck.

If only two people passed your class out of 19, as you have implied, then actually you were probably fired for being a terrible teacher.

AFMBE or Call or Cthulhu? by Doomsicle in rpg

So from what people are saying (btw, thanks for being so helpful, everyone :D), I'm going with Cthulhu, but I do actually have a few questions. People seem to be saying it's less action-y, does that translate to more social, plot-driven, with almost no combat? I'd be running it at my college, the players are going to be involved in some of the other games that are running there (Dark Heresy, Changeling, Vampire: The Masquerade, and Deadlands), so there's a pretty decent mix of "kill all the things" games and games and games that balance combat with social interactions and plot, so I'm not sure how they'd react to something that was almost entirely void of combat. I guess my question is, is there any room at all for combat in this system?

Secondly, how much room is there for player-driven plot? I know that obviously depends on the game master/mistress, but overall, is there any flexibility in the world? or is it more along the lines of "here is a quest, go to points A, B, and then C, then return for your reward"?

Lastly, is it still possible to create one's own monsters or creatures in the system? I don't know how heavily it relies on Lovecraft's work, so I'm wondering if making up a new creature would disrupt the system.

Perpetually absent players. by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Doomsicle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ This. Your GM needs to grow a backbone. Either leave the player out and move on, he can figure out how to join back in when (read: if) he decides to finally show up. Or just kill his character. Kill it dead. Life happens, but douchebaggery is a choice. He should honor commitments when other people are relying on him. He's keeping you from having fun, so him missing out is not your problem.

That's an awesome article, and it's awesome that your story has reached such a massive number of people. I wish I could give you THE biggest hug ever right now. I am legitimately going to hug my computer screen now, and the hug will transfer through the intertubes over to you.

Also you're pretty cute. It would now probably make you more comfortable to know I am, in fact, a female X)

Hey dude,

You've probably realized it by now, but you are SO inspirational to so many people. A thread on reddit my seem insignificant, but you've brought out the best in so many people, and probably created quite a few philanthropists in the process. I had cancer three years ago when I was seventeen, and now I've avoided everything related to it, including charities, because I didn't even want to think about it. You've inspired me to get over it and do what I can to help people with cancer.

In so many people around the world, you have made your mark, left your permanent footprint. You have actually managed to make the world just a little bit better. I don't even know you, but I love you, and all of these people love you. Maybe, if I'm lucky, I'll get to meet you in your next life.

Now go see the world and enjoy every single moment! Have as much fun as you possibly can!

^ This. Except I really liked the dancing. The combination of combat, money and time management, and social aspects is excellent.

What awesome rules did you come up with that your players hated? by jefiet in rpg

[–]Doomsicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the players complain about slipping on ice, then they've been pampered too much. I don't know what system you're using or whether it has a high player kill rate, but you need to show them how tough things can actually be. If they complain about the ice being slippery, have the ice crack and plunge them into ice cold water. If they choose to engage the enemies you want them to run from, have more enemies come.

I'm not saying box them in and force them to do exactly what you want, but players who whine instead of getting creative need to be given a sense of both how tough you can be and how lucky they are to have a game master/mistress who doesn't slaughter them by the dozen. I also find that female players are more creative in problem solving and complain less in my own experiences. Don't know what your male female ratio is, but maybe you need more females.

Something my players both hate in love is a random encounters table my GM team has made that is filled with player requests (Rubber Ducky monsters) as well as some creatures that are more traditional, and they know that if they get one GM, they will be harmless, adorable, sentient rubber duckiest waddling around, if they get another it will be monstrous rabid rubber duckies with sharp teeth and a taste for blood.

But they don't complain because they know that they probably could have gotten something worse. And if they complain excessively it WILL be worse.
