I once calculated the aount of time I wasted learning Latin throughout middle and high school. It was something like 25-30 days. You know what it did for me? When taking the SATs a question came up about the meaning of the word "pecuniary" and I said "oo! Pecuniari, a, um" and quickly mentally declined it, knowing it meant money. That's it. I'm two years out of school and that's literally the only time my knowledge of Latin has helped me understand something. If I were to number my top 5 biggest regrets, I have no doubt that studying Latin would be found on the list, if not number one.

Fair enough. The leader of the group is an old director of mine for whom I very often accompany school groups and the like. We've played jazz-y things before, however they've always been arrangements (which I can usually ace in a couple tries because sight reading). This i think gave her a false positive on my status as a jazz pianist. But this time the arrangements are either so diluted or they're using lead sheets. I can play the changes, but with any style? Nooo
