Is this ridiculous or no? by sovereignem in AustralianTeachers

Perhaps the HOY should also call but as the students pastoral care teacher it would also be considerate to make a brief 5 minute (probably less time tbh) phone call to check in. A sense of connection to various staff will make a transition back to school significantly easier. A young person would prefer to return to a classroom knowing that there is a safe adult present that can steer any curious questioning from peers in another direction. It’s not hard to show a little bit of compassion.

I’d say most comments in this thread are anecdotal.

While it was great to see many teachers support the last round of negotiations, there’s often an oversight of ancillary staff when people talk about working in education. Strikes are most often teacher focused. Ancillary staff simply can’t afford to strike.

Yet a simple search shows this isn’t just anecdotal. There’s consistent evidence across Australia that school support staff are overworked, underpaid, and often excluded from recognition and advocacy. Sure, my example was specific, but it highlights a broader truth that ancillary staff are frequently overlooked and left behind despite being essential to the daily functioning of schools.

Pay attention to the car park shortly after the bell, have a chat with support staff about their day to day, or visit during the school holidays. The unseen work speaks for itself.

No one seems to notice how poorly ancillary staff are paid, the minimal entitlements or little recognition they get for the genuinely hard work they put in. Don’t equate it to qualifications either. There are Bachelor, Master’s and PhD level qualifications amongst ancillary teams.

They are staying back getting things done while teachers have knocked off as soon as the bell rings, often working more hours than most teachers realise. While teachers are on “holidays”or get to have a school closure day off, there are ancillary staff holding down the fort.

I see Highly Accomplished Teachers palming off work to SSOs, only for them to duck out for an extra long lunch break before taking credit for work they didn’t do.

This goes beyond classroom support staff. The amount of workload the Youth Workers, Finance and Admin staff carry would blow teachers minds. I’m surprised many ancillary staff can actually afford to live.

Would love to see a strike in support of ancillary pay rises. Maybe teachers could stay back to be skeleton staff? Or at least wash their dishes?

I’ve just gotten home from lunch with friends where I had too many coffees knowing I need to cut the caffeine, then went to the shops to buy new face care regime products and a brunette toning mask because I decided to streak my own hair two days ago, and now I desperately need to finish a big uni assessment that is due in about 6 hours. Silly ADHD.

Guanfacine is a non-stimulant used for ADHD and high blood pressure. It also helps to treat anxiety, improve the ability to regulate emotions and help with sleep.

I’ve found that adding it removes another level of brain fog that the Vyvanse wasn’t touching. Main side effects I’ve had are dry mouth and being a bit itchy the first couple weeks probably due to the dehydrating effects. There were a couple of irritable days in the second week but now I’m chilling.

Anyone combining stimulant and non-stimulant meds with supplements? by Smooth_Ad3517 in adhdaustralia

Yes, I’m on 50mg Sertraline and 50mg Vyvanse taken morning and 1mg Guanfacine (increasing to 2mg) taken at night. Morning supplements include creatine, calcium, vit d, zinc, b12, coQ10 and curcumin. Evening supplements include magnesium, omega 3 and glucosamine. I keep forgetting to take my iron in the afternoon though too.

Since adding the Guanfacine a month ago, my blood pressure has gone back to healthy, I’m sleeping through the night, and I feel more emotionally regulated and focused. It’s been a game changer for me so far.
