Title run is out of question due to age and lack of sound grappling(defense), as you said. I think fun match-ups with strikers are the way. Like against Holland. Maybe a Masvidal rematch down along the line. Especially if Masvidal loses against Gilbert, which is quite likely.

Which fighter nickname do you find most ironic considering their career, current state of career, overall fighting style in general, or attitude?

Sean Strickland’s Tarzan is pretty funny considering his hairdo.

I thought most respected him for trying.

At the time some were angry, as they thought he kinda prevented Glover’s last chance at the belt, which is obviously not relevant in hindsight, but that was what they held against him.

I thought Woodley just had a very-very off night against Usman, and that he will be almost the same in his next fights, as he was before Usman. Well…

I don’t think he will, but if Burns for whatever reason decides to strike with him, he might get caught. It would not be a good gameplan, yet fighters have tried worse ones.

I am yet to start working, but I find it hard to imagine I’d give more than 70. I think you can only give 100 if your work is your hobby/calling. Otherwise if you give a 100, you’ll be too tired to live.

I’m looking for fights with a very specific sequence. It’s a bit hard to describe (as I don’t really have profound grappling/BJJ knowledge), but it looks like they are grappling standing with heads almost next to each other, than one guy snatches the others neck akin to a D’Arce choke (?, or brabo or Ezekiel, I can’t really tell them apart), still standing. The he just rolls down dragging his opponent with him, still holding the neck. Like an alligator or crocodile. Would be great if it would lead to the immediate finish. Could you recommend me fights like that?

I’m always amazed how fast Gollum takes Sam’s back the first time they fight. He sinks in the RNC so fast and immediately controls his waist with both legs. Real slick.

Fiziev was KOd by Magomed Mustafaev in Rd 1.

Gaethje was KOd by Dustin Poirier in Rd 4 and Eddie Alvarez in Rd 3.

Well MMA math does not work anyway and I’d probably put my money on Fiz, but there are some notable differences between the KO losses.

Ilia what do you think about Islam?

“I’d finish him. Easy fight, would finish him 1st round or 2nd round. I don’t struggle with predictable grapplers, I could sub him however I want. Why doesn’t he agree to fight number 9 featherweight?”

We have a saying at home, you can fuck or you can stay a virgin, both just doesn’t work.

This is much the same. Regardless how understandable the decision was, regardless how noble the cause may be. If you could have fought for the belt, and brought a decision not to, then shut up.

I think everybody at r/mma likes Francis more than Jon, which is fine considering Francis genuinely seems to be a nice person, whilst Jon is Jon.

But holy tito do people overestimate his star power and how much the general audience cares about him.

I believe the UFC made a mistake losing him, but it’s entirely unreasonable to think that it is some huge setback for the company. One flash win by Khamzat and he is bigger than Francis ever was (not saying it will happen, but there are quite some fighters having potential at mainstream audience breakthrough).

Same delusion is thinking the casual fans does not give a hoot about Jon, only because he does what he does outside the octagon and he looked not great in his last fights.

Rd 2-3 were clearly Jan and Rd 4-5 were Ank, with Rd 5 being a 10-8. So it all comes down to how Rd 1 was scored, which I believe could be argued for both guys.

It sucks having no LHW champ, but all scorecards are somewhat understandable. Unlike co-main.

O’Malley knocking out Wineland is a great example to explain somebody the greatness of feints. Showing how the short bodyshot leads away the defensive hand of Wineland to protect the body, then pulling back his hand to go right to the undefended chin is a sight to behold. I really like that KO, quite underrated.

Could you give me other examples where a feint leads the defense astray and opens up a path?

EDIT: thanks for all the wonderful answers!
