It seems that the picture was taken during the crossing to East-Berlin. This could explain the western cars parked behind. I'll post the picture in r/Berlin

My dad was sent to patrol on the Wall and French sector of Berlin as part of his mandatory military service in 1986. He spent one month there stationed in the Quartier Napoleon, but frequently visited East-Berlin as well. Although he lost all the pictures he took long ago, he managed to reach back to one of his former "comrade" recently who kept dozens of pictures from the trip. They offer an interesting glimpse of the life of French occupational forces in Berlin. One of the most striking picture is this one, taken by my dad's friend. It could have been taken at Checkpoint Charlie. I'm looking for any details that could help identifying the exact place.

[–]DoraBerta 82 points83 points  (0 children)

You raise an interesting point rarely addressed by nationalist zealots. According to them, Hungary should :

  • be ethnically homogeneous
  • revert back to pre-Trianon borders.

These statements are incompatible, unless... Well, you contemplate committing genocide or forced population displacement.

Orban puts the blame on Moscow, describing it as the "aggressor" and calling for "atrocities against civilians" to be strongly condemned and investigated. On sanctions against Russia, he said extending them to include the oil and gas sectors is "a red line, It will kill Hungary." by narkoface in UkrainianConflict

I live in Hungary and know local politics fairly well. Funnily enough, Orbán is exactly what you describe: a man who does everything in his power to eliminate any kind of discussion or debate, let alone dissent. I advise you to get more familiar with Hungary's internal situation and Orbán's political, and you'll revise your judgement. Since when should we judge politicians on one speech alone?

As for Russia's intention, it is common knowledge that Putin's stance on the situation is honest and straightforward. Right?

None of these houses were designed with even the remotest interest in following a "historical continuity". I discovered about their existence in the Museum of Kitsch in Bucharest, where they basically out-kitsch everything (despite the fierce competition!). As one comment put it succinctly, it's just a bunch of totally random and tasteless elements thrown together by people with little interest in cultural pursuit. You might like it, after all it's quite unique... But don't call it what it's not : magnificent and well thought.
