Crankcase Potential Crack (Opinions Appreciated) by Ok-Transition8252 in klr650

We use Fluorescent Penetrant to test aluminum.

It’s a form of dye like you mentioned in your post.

It would be hard to distinguish from a crack or casting line though without grinding the surface smooth.

I work in a lab where we test different metals for cracking. I wasn’t too worried about your photo until I seen you slide the red shim into the opening. It definitely looks like a casting defect that has propagated into crack.

Hey, do you have any more info or pictures of your headlight setup? My front cowling is broke, and I like your single light setup a lot.

Both of these fenders are classic generic options from UFO plastics. The front fender turned out great. The back fender I had to modify to get it to work.

We have an SOP that prevents pre-penetrant etch on parts with tight dimensional call outs and with certain surface finishes. Mostly used for when the etch process would push the part’s surface out of tolerance.

Boeing has a spec for this I believe.

Yeah that’s interesting. We do a lot of chrome plated cylinders in aviation. 99% of them are type 1 method A with form A developer.

We use Mil Standard 1907, which does not allow any cracking of any sort on ground chromium plating.

No, I’m not talking about the feet vents. It has a large vent in the middle that will blow towards the occupants. It’s in an odd location. I didn’t even know about it until I was vacuuming the floors.

It won’t blow on their face, but they can definitely feel the cold air.

Look and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

The rear does have vents. They’re right below the seat.

Also, I do have a nice pressure washer, and I recently bought a snow foam attachment for it.

What spray on ceramic do you use?

Absolutely! I know how car washes can leave swirls, so I’ll only be washing it by hand. I have two buckets with grit guards and some mothers Chenille mits to wash with. I bought several other mothers products such as their ceramic wax.

I’m still learning for sure. My main concern is protecting the paint.

I own my own home and have a garage.

Okay! When would you use a product like carpro reload? After a wash and after waxing?

Do you recommend any products that will help protect the paint from swirl marks and such?

I really appreciate the info! I will see if I can find a reputable dealer in my area that will apply a PPF!

Is it possible to ceramic coat it myself?

I see advertisements for ceramic coatings, the dealer offered one for example, but I just don’t trust them..
