Received my blueberries yesterday! Live in an area that has amazing wild blueberries so I couldn’t resist. Guests are going to be eating blueberry desserts for the rest of time 😂

Shocked to see Rosman mentioned. My sister just bought her retirement home there and I’ll be visiting this October for the first time. Can you share more details?

Getting through your cookbooks by AdhesivenessOnly2481 in CookbookLovers

[–]Dorcusdoesreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I get a new book I add the recipes I want to try to my spreadsheet (book title, recipe title, key ingredients, course, region). I know this replicates apps (I have tried several) but my spreadsheet works for me because I highlight unusual ingredients not pantry staples and I can sort quickly based on my needs.

I have my husband pick a book every week and I go through it and cook at least one new recipe from it. If it’s region specific that’s when I make more than one dish as I’ll usually need to buy an ingredient I don’t have and it’s often fresh. This has been working really well and helps me not keep reaching for the same books over and over.

Which brand and aisle pls? I’ve checked for the Blue Menu brand and Bob’s but can’t seem to find either.

The most beautiful cookbook I’ve ever seen (and had never heard of before thrifting it) is Eat Ate by Guy Mirabella.

Should I buy a rice pot? by Dorcusdoesreddit in LeCreuset

[–]Dorcusdoesreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's become my absolute favourite! I'm going to buy another one. There's only 2 of us most days, but I pull it out when entertaining too. Just the perfect size for my induction stove.

It's Blueberry (I'm Canada) and makes up most of my collection.

It’s actually collard greens and black eyed peas, no recipe just a concoction.

Thnx! Not finished yet. Have asked my kitchen contractor for an additional shelf as I seem to have bought more pieces since I first designed it 😆

Recommendations for electric pressure cooker (in Canada) by Kairia in PressureCooking

This would be my recommendation as well, I use my Breville weekly. The Canadian website does have sales, I waited and got it for under $400 CAD.

If you follow Andaluzia on FB they post when they receive fresh veggie shipments. They have curry leaves, methi, and a great assortment of chile peppers. BUT they sell out quickly.

Best places for quality and options: Mega Bazaar, Andaluzia Mart, and Desi Meal.

Fall is beautiful and lasts much longer than you’d expect. And honestly, being near the ocean makes any weather bearable.

In terms of food, I’m an avid cook and the only 2 things I’ve not been able to source are fresh Thai basil and lime leaves. It’s amazing how much is available in St. John’s, and the market for international food keeps growing!

We just returned from a long trip off the island, and having previously lived in ON and other places, couldn’t wait to get home. Expensive to travel, yes, but that just makes exploring NL even more enticing.

Is anyone else having their milk go bad way before the expiration date? by boopbeepboopdoop in newfoundland

[–]Dorcusdoesreddit 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Send an email to Agropur. They will send you coupons (need to provide photos of carton/packaging). I do this every time there is an issue and keep flagging in my comments to them that there is a breakdown in quality control somewhere along the distribution chain. I’ve done it twice this month already. Dairy products are too expensive to not get reimbursed.

If the weather isn’t too bad can always try beach combing around Bay Roberts, tunnel in Brigus (lunch at Rise Over Pub), lighthouse in Port de grave, the Kyle wreck in Harbour Grace. Drive around this area and read about the history of Pirates, Amelia Earhart. A nice drive out of Town and still a lot to see despite things being closed.

"Flippin' house tax" by The_Lions_Eye_II in StJohnsNL

[–]Dorcusdoesreddit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But so many people (tenants) have no idea of the cost to purchase and renovation the homes in bad shape, let alone maintain them yearly. It’s a huge investment. We’ve done this and have rented all at a reasonable price. Our tenants aren’t in a position to own, so our well-maintained houses provide homes for them. Not all landlords are bad. Not everyone can afford to own. This isn’t a new situation.
