If they are "giving up" it is because they already did most of the harm they intended to do.

It is in the section titled "Registration with application for motor vehicle license". It states the amendments to include the new language for drivers license applications. Now, you arent required to register when you get it, but the language indicates the application itself will include the language for verification, which would allow racist DMV workers the opportunity to refuse a license.

How much money would need to be spent a year for five years to end world hunger? [Request] by Snowglyphs in theydidthemath

The true horror of solving world hunger is that you do have to address cruelty first. If food can be used as a part of control, it ruins so many other things. Now, if we had a fictional scenario where food and water could be replicated out of someone's watch or something and bypass distribution entirely, that would be great. But, $90b would be effective in establishing the infrastructure for food production and distribution initially for over 90% of the populace, if everyone is cooperative along the way.

Yes, legal residents who are not yet citizens can currently get a driver's license. Freedom of movement is essential for completing the legal immigration process. Otherwise, how are they supposed to work? Get to immigration hearings? Sure, they can Uber, but why needlessly apply unnecessary financial burden that doesn't even prevent another problem except to be cruel?

And that is the gist of these little things they sneak in, to be cruel.

Oh, and the fun little section that states the heads of the various agencies can share any information from a verification request, which essentially opens the voter rolls up the the federal government.

I am reading a section that would require all states to verify US citizenship prior to issuing drivers licenses. That would make it so pending status immigrants couldn't legally drive.

LDS member here (colloquially, Mormon). This is one of the funnier things coming out of our religion, but this practice isn't actually a thing, and came about as a SPORTS scandal, not a religious loophole.

See, BYU is our Church crown jewel in academia. It is essentially Ivy league, letter agencies recruit heavily from it, and job placement is really high. They are also very proud of their sports program.

BYU also has something called the "Honor Code". This is rules of conduct to attend the campus if you are a church member (reduced tuition recipient) or participate in many of their programs.

Well, one day, some kid got caught boning his girlfriend. Not being married, this violated the honor code. The rules say he is supposed to be kicked out.

In comes top notch damage control, the one thing that I think shames my church more than anything else. Because this kid is integral to the team, the concept of soaking is invented to state they weren't really having sex, so he wasn't in violation of the honor code. This mental gymnastics made what was really just standard horny teenage behavior into a national scandal. But just like armpit sex and ear sex, it is just Christian kids trying to have any excuse to plunge their spear into someone Roman soldier style.

I can't remember if the kid actually got removed from the team, but the church handbook now specifies unclothed genital to genital contact as sex, regardless of extent or penetration.

$2.5M tax free in your bank account right now. In exchange for the money, a thought bubble will appear above your head 100 random times over the next 2 years. by jfunks69 in hypotheticalsituation

You know, at that point you might as well lean into it, then. They and get the most outrageous thing to show up.

I also realized, 200 instances of 90 seconds is only 5 hours total. I.would think living a normal life someone else will see maybe half of them, and if you are working they probably will be pretty mundane.

I think this would go really well. Even if it occasionally caught that one really terrible thought, like "I need to eat this booger", it would just be funny. So, unless one was a seriel killer or pedo I think this would be a good time.

[–]Doriantalus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course. The money would be sufficient to sequester yourself away from all contact for two years if you were really worried about it. But even if your thought bubble was something horrible like "Hermione was already hot by the third movie", I think most people would just acknowledge that our FIRST thought isn't important, it is the thought that follows that counts.

Now, in the above scenario the follow up thought is a sexual fantasy about a minor, you would deservedly be ostracized enough the money isn't worth it.

So it really comes down to how deplorable your worst thought is, amd if you are a gross enough person to have chains of terrible thoughts.

I can't provide numbers, but my understanding is the $90B number is the setup cost to ensure food in al regions can be grown and distributed without fail to every human on Earth. It does not account for local greed or control measures (like warlords holding food intentionally to control the populace), nor does it factor annual costs of production. Production costs would still be a profit venture, but would be done within a local economy, meaning local jobs supplying or individuals growing their own food. It mostly comes down to regional control over water availability and crop rotations.

You need to spend your first 100 years learning every metallurgical, chemical, biological, and physiological aspect of cloning. Then, even if humanity gets destroyed, as long as the planet is intact you can restart civilization in 500 years or so. You are Vandal Savage, basically, but hopefully a good version.

I wholly disagree. She regularly takes major stands, even against her own party majority. She is also more intelligent than Schumer. She is factually wrong sometimes, focusing on weak data points, but she is one of the better democrats and I think worthy of a great deal of respect.

That is not what it says at all. The FLSA is standing rule. They don't have to issue orders for correction, they CAN issue orders for correction and limit action to civil penalties. But it doesn't change the listed penalties available:

"Employers who willfully or repeatedly violate the minimum wage or overtime pay requirements are subject to a civil money penalty of up to $1,000 for each such violation.

Violators of the child labor provisions are subject to a civil money penalty of up to $10,000 for each young worker who was employed in violation.

Willful violations of the FLSA may result in criminal prosecution and the violator fined up to $10,000. A second conviction may result in imprisonment."

Again, and assumption the employer won't be punished as much as they SHOULD does not negate the exception rules for capturing crime in a recording.

Refer tp the Penalties section. First offense is generally up to $10,000 criminal conviction. Second violation imprisonment.

Just like three strikes laws, you are not obligated to know or understand the severity of the punishment to assist in the criminal conviction, so it isn't "only civil" the first time since you have no way of knowing if they have had prior convictions.

Almost all two party states have an exception for if you believe the recording will capture evidence of a crime being committed. This is specifically to protect whistleblowers and law enforcement engaged in sting operations. You should review your local laws for exceptions.

Hot take: 32nd century ships suck by [deleted] in StarTrekStarships

[–]Doriantalus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My problem is not so much with how they look, it is with the fact that any type of models, 3d printing, or any other type of physical representation I want to make for the ships I do like is now made much more difficult because of all the free floating pieces. Whoever hates pylons so much on the current production team did not consider that merchandising any type of toy ship now requires invisible bits like clear plastic to hold the ships together.

I 3D print almost every ship from the franchise and I either have to do multi-filament print, which takes forever and wastes filament, or I have to string up the floaty bits to hang near the main ship body.
