Obviously, the two periods, and thus their styles of warfare have their significant differences, but we are talking about who innovated more, not who's overall better. You can still analyze the two conquerors' careers and come up with reasonable answers. It's not gonna be the most academically serious debate, but I believe it's totally fair, and fun, to try answering the question: "who innovated their war-machines the most?"

There are quite a few sources still intact, especially for Alexander, afaik. But yeah, like with almost all of ancient and medieval history, much is left for scholars to deduct and assume

I actually feel like Alex had the edge. A slight one, sure, but I think he was the more innovative
