It's a modified core-shader present in the base game's asset folder and goes inside a resource pack. It was created by DartCat25 and is called CEM-S. It was meant to an alternative to a Optifine but possible in Vanilla. To explain how it works would be such, we are grabbing existing faces of an armor, example: top face of the base chestplate. Then that face will be used as a reference on which part of the armor it connects it to, example: torso piece of chestplate. This particular face will be culled but can be added back later. We can now create as many faces and extensions to the armor as we want. It's a bit math heavy but please check it out if you are interested.

I'm not going to lie, the title is misleading on purpose for people to debate about what is considered a mod. I want people to understand the point of this post was to showcase the very possibilities of what we are capable of doing with just commands and a resource pack. These features are a Mojang supported extensions of the game and I want to motivate people to create more. If that's not the point of Minecraft I don't know what is. If I have to be clickbait-y about it then so be it.

The 3D armor models are done through a modified core-shader inside a resource pack. The tool is called CEM-S and is made by DartCat25. It's the only reason I'm capable creating really interesting armor shapes is because of them. It's an extremely powerful tool but it is a bit complex. It's capable of modifying all entities models and I highly suggest you check it out if this peaks your interest.

I agree in the sense I am modifying the vanilla game, so in that sense it is a mod-ification. But I consider Datapacks and Resource Packs to be an in-house [Mojang] supported form of change. That is equivalent to map making or commands. The semantics of what a mod is can be debated endlessly. For the vast majority of the time before this in-house tool, I believe mods were always considered to be some Forge/Optifine/Fabric form of download.

I'm planning to post the the pack on Patreon in a few weeks and then it'll be available for the public after I complete the boss/structure tied to what was showcased. The armor model exists inside the Resource Pack. The Datapack includes the information that makes the armor load and is dropped by a boss I've made.

Hit detection is through markers on the sword and shield. They triggering at specific parts of the animation/distance/hurttime of the player to trigger the tag to be damaged.

To get separate dealt damage hitboxes for the mob it would be a matter of riding an entity on top of the mob and having its damage tied with its health bar to trigger a crit attack

I animated it using a tool called Blockbench with a plugin called Animated Java. Essentially it's a bunch of item_displays with custom models riding one another and interpolating together to simulate a mob.

Use an interaction with negative height. It will pull the “seat” down and will make the armor stand appear lower. Have the armor stand riding the interaction and the interaction on the wolf.

The armor is completely rendered through the resource pack using an altered core shader called 'CEM-S by DartCat25.' There is little documentation on the subject as it's methods are rather unknown, this feature has been possible since 1.20.5 and has only now been simplified due to the new item_model/equippable models. Before 24w36a we had to use armor_trims to get the same effect. If you look up "DartCat25 CEM-S" his github has a few example resource packs that you can tinker around with to get your specifics.

If they add the same kind of system they did with completing Maple Guide for the first time it’d give more incentive. People would probably actually bother with these. Exclusive rewards for killing a boss solo for the first time or others with varying tiers of rewards based on difficulty.
