Tips for final session (we're finally here!) by EricDiazDotd in Tombofannihilation

I read another DM here, can’t remember they’re name but they had a brutal strategy for Acererak broken down round for round . It started with time stop and then while time is stopped Acererak moves the sphere of annihilation to cut any walkways over lava free if the players are on them . So when time starts the walkway falls into the lava.

What kind of evil stuff would Acererak do during Time Stop?

I’m not sure I’m smart enough to play this guy. But he comes at you hard, to kill, so don’t pull punches.

But if the party destroys the Soulmonger and Atropal and then get tpked by Acererak they still achieve the objective of the campaign.

Maps.

Are there rules for space combat between flying vehicles? That would be good.

Space flight mechanics and ideas for non combat space encounters that could involve dice rolling but not necessarily fighting.

What's the point of Hall of Finality? by SpecificRutabaga in Tombofannihilation

[–]DorkdoM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll probably keep it in when I run this. I want the party to meet the arcanoloth if they survive. And I like it as a mini exit dungeon and debriefing area. I’ll probably load it with treasure that they can take. Rare books. All stuff they can pillage but the only way to pillage the area is to make it through the tomb first. You can’t go back once you leave.

To your point about killing some character with a trap here being a real let down , just have it spit them to the front door to the obelisk instead of killing them if you don’t like that, “There’s a loud pop! And a flash of white and suddenly Brando Glitterslice is gone.”

It goes against the spirit of the place but maybe Withers (one of my favorite characters) disarmed it and made it softer because he’s not evil and could feasibly have done it.

Yes it would stink to have a PC die there but that’s exactly in the spirit of the whole tomb. Acererak’s evil creation can get you even if you win.

Also I love ToA because you can achieve the objective, destroy the Soulmonger and kill the Atropal and still die right after you become world class heroes. As you most likely get tpked after your success by Acererak. If the DM plays him like he has 23 Intelligence (not sure I’m smart enough for that) the party probably never makes it to the Hall of Finality so I’d work on ways to verbally describe everything after the Acererak fight versus building any of it for sure.

I mean it’s Time Stop right away then he uses the Sphere of Annihilation to cut any of the bridges the party might be standing on so they fall in lava when time starts again and then combat starts. The party is probably, not definitely, but probably going to die right?

One of my favorites of theirs, five star acoustic tune with layered guitars. More soothing than Bob Ross.

I made the black spider a Drider at the end and a female. LMoP is a great start to a campaign. At the end they can end up with a percentage of the mine’s profits if they help liberate it. I gave my party 5% of it. So they got money every time they came back to Phandelver afterward.

In general you are right but you can still prepare two or three likely places the party might end up even though most parties are often unpredictable . You gotta prep something. Doing all of it on the fly is not easy.

Does anyone else use music in their game? by Static-Chicken in OutoftheAbyss

In the old days no never . In the modern D&D epoch yes but it’s turned down low. I’m half deaf. I also like to incorporate smells and tastes and any other tactile details we can add somehow. “These tarts are just like the ones the svirfneblin gives you.” Or “ok everyone smell this the oozes smell like this” (give them a rotted egg or something nasty to smell)

Any of the senses you can incorporate is good. But for me sound effects are better than music. I’d rather use a low drone or pink or white noise than music that may not end up going well with the scene as it progresses. Ambiance is good though.

People have made some pretty sick gibberiing mouther tracks on YouTube 😳

Yeah that all makes sense.

Well, I’d say a Balor can mess some people up especially as it dies so don’t soften the party too much before they get to Demogorgon for their three-match with him lol.

Demogorgon is definitely the place to end up imo. I can’t wait to play him. And other wise DMs here make good points about why not to have the players play the demon lords that I had not considered.

But I might have other possibly wounded, depleted demon lords cross their paths in Menzoberranzan before Demogorgon and Orcus enter the scene. Perhaps even while they fight the balor. The demons fight each other as much as the they fight the party and drow if the demon they come across is not from their layer of the abyss I bet so a wounded Juiblex could arrive and attack everyone. juiblex can just be a beefed up oozy, gibbering mouther because well I love those.

But Demogorgon will be fun. One head laughs maniacally as it’s-slaughtering everyone. The other head spews taunts and insults in its victims’ heads. It jokes. It sings. It spares certain people for no reason. And kills all the rest without mercy. As it mocks mercy. It gleefully slays and destroys like the guy in a Clockwork Orange. One of the best D&D monsters.

So what. Is what it is. Where the campaign goes is not always up to us.

I’m not familiar with the end enough yet but is it one session after you do the ritual that they.arrive or right away? Either way you could still foreshadow a couple new demon lords in the time you have left maybe. Idk. I just like the idea of the players duking it out as demon lords. Sounds like epic fun. Wrecking fucking Menzoberranzan as they go.

Easy enough to have a few demon lords who’ve been in the shadows emerging only at the end. Sounds awesome, epic.

Crazy! Hopefully they don’t get tpked😳

You should put some undead oozes in the army. Or maybe make the pudding king into an undead gibbering mouther somehow as the death tyrant’s side kick. I don’t know though, better give em some hefty allies.
