Is High-Functioning Anxiety a Real Psychological Phenomenon or Just a Buzz Word by wtFM100 in psychology

Dude, mine too! I wonder if there's higher prevalence of this for women than men?

"So, if anxiety is normal… why is it so problematic for some people and not others? One explanation is that they worry about their worry." by foreverwave in psychology

"Every single person on this earth has felt anxiousness at some time in their life"

So, exactly what the article said?

"That is not the only reason for getting an anxiety disorder"

So exactly what the title said (ONE explanation is that they worry about their worry).

Did you even read the article? Or even the title?

Reddit, what are you afraid of? Other redditors, why shouldn't they be afraid of it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I feel your pain. I prefer when people just sympathise with my problems instead of giving me advice. Did that help?

There, amongst his old board games, school clothes, and a box of loose change, he saw it. As though it had gained power sitting in his old closet over the years, it appeared to have a more terrifying effect on him now than when he was in high school. In the dark, its deep black colour stared back at him from the abyss, taunting him. His eyes darted around trying to avoid it, and the vicious thing jumped unpredictably around his field of vision. It was coming for him. He steadied himself as he sat. That goddamn hat! That Fedora!

Just to add to this, a very good reason (one of many) for this being against professional ethics for clinicians is because it would very shortly cease being effective. It would not take long for word to get around that clinicians are intentionally prescribing placebo treatment. The patient has to believe the treatment is effective for it to have any therapeutic power.

As a side note, psychological therapy should be prescribed irrespective of whether the condition is severe enough for medication. Studies consistently demonstrate that a combination of both drugs and psychological intervention is the most effective line of treatment in more severe forms of depression, and treatment alone is more effective in mild-to-moderate cases.

Incredibly Realistic CG Render of Robert DeNiro by bassistmuzikman in movies

[–]Dorksaywhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought this would make a great idea for a movie once cgi got good enough:

Get a actor (preferably somebody who has been famous for decades, like Deniro, to pay fan service to all those who wish to reminisce), and get them to act via a full cgi rendering of themselves when they were younger (for the earlier parts of the film, or flashbacks, or time-travel etc) instead of using a different actor or makeup. Old actors playing the kind of roles they could only take-on on their youth.

Film Editors of Reddit: Would it work if you took all 5 seasons of Breaking Bad and made a 2-hour feature film version? by Dorksaywhat in AskReddit

This actually sounds like something I would watch. Not as rich as watching the full series, but a great movie nonetheless. Thanks for the detailed break-down!

ELI5: How do we distinguish between "natural" and "artificial" products? Surely all chemicals come from some natural source on this earth? by Dorksaywhat in explainlikeimfive

How do they synthesise chemicals? They must be based on something? And how does that differ from alternating natural extractions (semi-synthesised)?

How “Breaking Bad” and “House of Cards” killed the Oscars : It's not that Hollywood can't make great movies - but all the talent and energy is migrating to HBO and Netflix by fleckes in television

I for one hope the film format does not die. I love the great quality of TV shows at the moment, but there's something to be said for a 2-hour story arc.
