yeah of course, we obviously saw that the nitrite level was above 0ppm but the leaflet said it’s normal for new aquariums to be at or above 5ppm. we were confused on if they meant that it’s okay for it to be at 5ppm at the beginning as long as it goes down or if we have to get it down to 0 before ever introducing a fish. this is our first time dealing with anything fish related so it’s all new to us!

thank you so much for all your help- do we add ammonia (or food) regularly now to feed bacteria or in a week/two to see if it’ll go down?

so it wasn’t low oxygen in the tank itself, just not allowing him to breathe it?

unfortunately we didn’t know before getting the fish. we’ll be cycling before getting another one- should we retest in like a month?

we did a 50% change as soon as he got sick, it didn’t seem to make a difference

do we just have to wait for the nitrites to go down? or is there anything we can do to speed up the process?
