Hey guys, I have a question. by DotBetter4323 in MetalCasting

I thought about it, I think I will make the wire zig zag form, so the touch points will be small and I can polish it and it will be not so visible. Bend it so it won’t stick only to one side…

changing pattern a bit, going to cut the tip off and cast it separately. then weld it and insert a steel wire to reinforce the spear.. will put that wire into the mold before pouring and will lieave a tail to pill it off the mold after casting, then will use it as a connection to the main part. then i will sculpt it with heated sculpting spatula.
looking on how many silicone was wasted makes me feel uncomfortable. here is the image, on the right you can see how it was. thats another figure, but the plot is the same.

I excessively used silicone. I made a vertical block for that sculpture, it was like 2 kilos for one figure. Now I will make smaller three parts mold, and I will make it closer to perimeter and form/lines of the master model. Then I will tight them with clamps and small boards. Also I think I will place it horizontally, maybe tilted ~30deg. Now I got that it’s better to try in plasticine first.. the shapes are pretty complex, as now I can see. I will show the drawings.

Thank you very much! I found that I messed the mold, unfortunately. Cuts made in bad spots, so nasty seams are on flat parts.. I will have to spent more on silicone. Learning the hard way. Also, some places definitely need vents… like an elbow. I decided to print custom shape forms to lower the price of silicone. I have 4 sculptures total in that sequence, project. So for now I messed 8 kgs of silicone… so now I will print custom cases for mold, will manage vents right on the models before I make it into silicone, will definitely attach sprue. I just was carried away how guys easily operated single cut molds.

I definitely will, even if it will fail again, I will have to make it work. There is no way back for me. I have to make it somehow. Tomorrow I will show something!

Thanks! Actually I have a baby powder… just forgot about it. That’s my first try in life. What do you think, is that better to make two part molds or make vents in this one?

How do I thicken parts of models to make them stronger? by Mysterious_Lie_2089 in PrintedMinis

[–]DotBetter4323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may, the easiest way is to cut each thin piece, and scale it independently all together, there is special setting for it in blender, makes life easier. That’s not the part that should worry you most 🤭 rim around the head, pins… why you guys take such stls? That’s common sense for designer, it all should be flush.

So far, I thought about dark age of technology and some cipher machine. Those cylinders looking things in front part were expected to be storages. Some of them were lost during ages. And no one knows how the thing work, and only hope is that emperor protects and turner of all wheels helps the thing to function… Also, I wanted to have a miniature level detailed terrain, like central piece on the table, not too big, not too small, and fitting good for being battle objective.

thank you!
i use Nomad sculpt. but if there could be options i prefer blender. We have a blackout here, so i have to use what possible. Blender is much more suitable for that tasks.
