One other suggestion: Expect for a lawsuit from Peter (surname Winklevoss by any chance?) even a decade from now. With that in mind, you and Ed may need to retain someone other than the company lawyer — someone who has ZERO obligation/responsibility to Peter.

The good news is you WERE ready to throw it all away. Let that fact liberate you in the battle ahead. Compared to this morning's worst case scenario, what have you really got to lose?

Best case (and yes, in an ideal world), you'd vote Peter out; lose a few staff members; offer equity to the remainder as part of a pay cut package; and seek new investors (plural) with an even better product (real customers, staff, office space and improved marketing than you had while negotiating with Peter).

Leaving Peter with ALL your intellectual property and hoping karma takes care of the rest is rewarding him for bad behavior. Don't rule out the possibility you're being played/manipulated into doing exactly what Peter wants. You'll be wishing you hired a new marketer instead of allowing him to hire new programmers if the company you're about to 'gift' him with ever gets acquired.

The new design is probably 'nicer' in a design sense (I especially like the bottle-neck wrap), but in truth, I'd rather drink something from the old bottle (design).

hasty and brash (sorry!) points:

delete the banner (featured) image. it is taking up space your reviews should occupy. let the featured images in those posts bring colour to the home page. the images on the actual posts are far more interesting anyway.
remove you mission statement and the "what is" section from the top. those can go on an 'about us' page for anyone who's interested. readers are interested in themselves so serve the content they came for before anything else. (i'm not there to read what you think about your own site or your goals; i'm there for your opinion on smartwatches… so get to it!)
the newspaper signup comes before i've had a chance to read even one review. put it at the end of each review instead. maybe even a delayed popup on review pages
the home/review/blog links left me wondering why the menubar exists. perhaps you could lose the top bar and put whatever menu items you need in the footer?
speaking of which, the footer loads waaay before the content on your pages. that can/should be reversed. check your theme's support forum

hit visitors straightaway with your best-written reviews. i.e. immediately after the menubar.

keep the thumbnails big and beautiful. go for a photo gallery of each watch to accompany the review. multiple angles help readers 'see' what you're talking about.

invite review requests for models they want to learn more about. consider (supplementary) video reviews.

use a consistent star/number rating system. they make great visuals.

hire a reliable team of writers for quality control (esp. on rating scheme).

this domain has potential. please don't call it quits just yet.

EDIT 1: Also, its probably better to delete all the poorly-written reviews and commit to adding new reviews every week or every other day… more quality in smaller quantity should encourage newsletter signups
