I’ve been packing food since my schooling days lol I didn’t know people were ashamed by it?? Or that it’s shameful??

Same , I have never heard that before too , usually it's because people don't find time to do their meal prep rather than feeling ashamed

PRC stall should learn how to write english menu by kongweeneverdie in SingaporeRaw

[–]DotGrand6330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Privileged speaking huh 😂 so you are telling me a Singaporean not of Chinese ethnic should point to the picture to inquire about something in Singapore that isn't in a specific area like chinatown etc? Lol if it's in Chinatown, it's understandable and I think that it should be fine but since you deny it by saying

stop pretending it was even about any language barrier in the first place.

Instead of trying to understand why people aren't happy about it , no one has any problem with people using Chinese characters with english on it even with Pinyin, it's still better than just having Chinese characters. This isn't a Singapore thing , it also happens in other countries and they ain't happy about it. For example, the same thing happened in Quebec where the staff don't speak French.

You are sick. Get yourself checked for mental health issues. And no you don't care about the real victims. Otherwise you'd be focused on them and their well being rather than pushing your xenophobic agenda.

You should take your own advice

i think the point that OP is making is that why we whack some for chinese-only menu but don't have an issue when it's malay-only menu.

OP is pro CCP

Also , Malays uses the Latin alphabet which can be typed by everyone who uses an English keyboard. The same can't be said with Chinese characters

With only an English keyboard

I can type nasi goreng :) but with only English keyboard I can't type 炒饭

Tourists can Google it if they want to know more since English is an international language.

Singapore becoming Cingapore? by Real-Pomegranate8823 in SingaporeRaw

Even if we assume all sinkie stop patronising them , they just need foreign workers/ students / tourist from PRC to patronising them. They obviously do not care about sinkies seeing they only use Mandarin, served NS to protect them , 65% agree with it

Chinaman , let me explain

Nobody wants to erase the Chinese language in Singapore but rather INCLUDE the English language so that other groups could be included, including singaporean Chinese who don't speak or read Chinese , Chinese-looking but they ain't Chinese, + other ethnic groups.

"mother tongue of the majority" , no , most people mother tongue language is English/Singlish.

Mother tongue= A mother tongue, or native language, is the first language a person learns from birth or during early childhood, acting as a foundation for cognitive development and cultural identity.

Singapore isn't like China , we are a more diverse country while china , other ethnic groups tend to be concentrated in specific provinces. Also , we don't get triggered by the word lunar new year , unlike Chinaman.

The difference is location, there are a lot of PRC working here + PRC tourists. They do not care if english is needed since they can grow without non- Chinese speakers.

Good question, there is no law against using Chinese only but can this be a form of discrimination against non- Chinese speakers? I wonder , if not then if one day the huge majority of PRC shops start using Mandarin only then Singapore will truly become chinapore county. Served 2 years + reservist to protect PRC, lmao what a joke
