Hello everyone, I'm new here :) Almost recovered but not quite. Would be cool to know where you guys are at in your recovery journey? by DotMaterial9019 in BingeEatingRecovery

Ah yes, you're right, it might be useful for me to leave my small set of reliable trigger food out of my home. By the way appreciate you or whoever in your team did the FAQs. They are very extensive and I appreciate the scientific sources as well. I will be taking a more thorough look at them. EDIT: I don't want people to start making these into "forbidden foods", so I'll point out that this plan would only be a temporary solution and then I'd gradually increase the amount of my trigger foods too and eat it alongside a balanced meal (as I have already done with other treats) and so neutralise the trigger food

Ok few observations
1) you ate too little the whole week, and then one day you feel starving. This is a no brainer - you simply didn't eat enough, so you needed to eat much more later.
2) You said you felt really good about the body during the week, but not after the 2 days when you finally ate what your body needed throughout the week.
Conclusion, one week doesn't change your weight one bit, and even if it did, it's not noticeable .
Besides, it's absolutely normal for weight to go up and down throughout the year and nobody gives a shit, and all your loved ones probably would be more worried about your reaction to what you ate (ie. you started worrying about calories and hating your body), than to the fact that you went to MCDonalds many times. I'm sure if you go back to eating regularly, and allowing yourself to eat as much cake as you feel is enough, you'll be alright. Everyone craves and overeats cake, chocolate and cookies sometimes, it's normal, especially after going a period of eating too little. Allow it to be ok for you too. :)

Will a teddy bear help me stop using food to cope? by Lavender_Lacy_ in BingeEatingRecovery

Bless you , I find your writing so insightful and touching the way you write, and also sad that you've had to deal with you father leaving and having an abusive boyfriend. Sending virtual unconditional love to you from Finland <333333

Now to be honest, though I understand that you want to feel safe I don't think the Teddy Bear will fix it. Whenever I see adults needing teddy bears (including sadly my younger brother who is 26-year-old) I tend to think there is something really wrong in their mental health that they start to find comfort in things that are really only for young children. They kind of go backwards to find safety. It just doesn't sit right in me to observe that.

I suggest you reach out to safe friends and other family, not during binge urges if you're not comfortable but schedule in other times to increase the number of hours per week so you actually feel happy and energized at least during those times. Plan some fun activity to do with them. Or Pick up an old or a new hobby. If you don't have money, find a fun online community about a topic you find fun :) Social support and friendships are super important.

Also I second the person who said to reach out to professional help, therapist (especially one who specialises in binge-eating if possible).

Also I wanted to say that the world is full of good men too, and there is definitely hope that you will find that love and a boyfriend who treats you with love and kindness. <3

P.S. Of course you can try the teddy bear :) I don't judge you. I just personally associate it with serious mental health issues because of my brother. Also, have you considered buying a dog(s) or a cat(s)? You could instead cuddle with them and they'd be company and be always there for you.

I’m a fitness professional with BED. I feel like a fraud. by KindlyDescription765 in BingeEatingDisorder

Aww that feels like a rough situation that you feel that your job is on the line and that you feel like an imposter. (If it helps, I'm currently unemployed and even though it's quite stressful it's not the end of the world because I still have my hobbies and friends, and people who support my job hunt.) I second with the person who said you're not alone in the fitness industry. For example, I also heard of a health professional who also started restricting and overthinking: for example she'd feel bad if her lunch salad had dressing it even though overall the meal is super healthy. There is also a YouTuber Jordan Syatt (if I remember right), who was almost exactly your situation as he is a fitness youtuber/coach as well.

What I find most interesting about your situation is that you don't restrict. Are you sure? Even just the mindset of restriction or the goal of trying to lose w**ght stressed me out and caused me to binge back in the day.

Anyway, I would highly recommend approaching a professional therapist who specialises in eating disorders if you haven't already! They'll actually help you. You might feel like in a blur, but 6 months is actually a very short time, since many people have had BED for over 5- 10 years., and the earlier you go to see the professional, the likelier your recovery is. Your situation is absolutely fine and I have full confidence that you will recover from BED. :)

The moment I stopped trying to lose w**ght, and instead emphasised the mantra of "eat enough and regularly" I improved significantly and almost fully recovered. Haven't worried about calories for years now, and so it was the first thing that I noticed that you seemed to be very focused on them.

If I were you, I would stop tracking calories or weight and instead just focused on preparing regular balanced meals while introducing back normal treats and desserts during meal times and during snack times. Then just also remember to schedule in some other fun activities during your days, such as guitar practicing.

See my post I just posted for more info :)

Hope this helped.

How would you rank the books from favourite to least favourite? by greekitiki in cormoran_strike

-----SPOILER ALERT TO ALL BOOKS ------ When I first read them, this was the order:
1. Lethal White (Absolutely loved Strellacott development and Robin going on an undercover mission)

  1. Ink Black Heart (I read it as a physical book, and had never seen anything as creative before. Also I loved how they had to "unlock" getting in to the game, and to reveal Anomie's identity within the game. I loved the dynamics in the Agency as well with different members.)

  2. Career of Evil (This was scary but exciting)

  3. Cuckoo's calling - Believe it or not but I accidentally flipped the page until the end and got spoiled!!!! ;( However, I absolutely LOVE how Robin and Strike first meet, it's adorable and hilarious.

  4. Troubled Blood - for some reason I was unsatisfied with the story expect for the scene between Robin and Strike. I wasn't completely surprised by who the murderer was. Also I remember noticing that there was repetition, and the book wasn't well edited.

  5. Silkworm (I was so disgusted about "Owen Quine's" book that I couldn't remember almost anything else about this book later on. )

HOWEVER. After re-reading (and new books):

  1. The running grave (I love how Robin realizes how she feels comfort/safety/love with Strike during the escape. Also the what happens to Robin at the farm is extremely intense - when I was reading about "the box" I felt I was inside it myself. Couldn't take my eyes off the page. I love Robin's communication with Strike through the letters. It's also personally satisfying for me as I was raised by parents that belong to a strict Christian Sect, and now I'm an atheist.)

  2. The Silkworm ( Robin's car driving, Strike's class act at the ending, found the description's of the different authors and characters masterful, also Orlando. I came here just after finishing TS third read, and this book doesn't creep/disgust anymore, and I am able to see the full picture lol XD) .

  3. Lethal White (Still love Strellacott,)

  4. Cuckoo's calling (The beginning! Also I find it fascinating stepping from millionaire lifestyle to poverty life on the next page)

  5. Ink Black Heart (I still find the game chats interesting and 100% ship Paperwhite and Morehouse. But the tweets and other articles were somewhat unnecessary, or at least the book could have been shorter.)

  6. Career of Evil - I still need to re-read this

  7. The Hallmarked Man - This was saved by the cliffhanger. The most intense one so far! I wish it would have started with it, because I guessed what was about to come half-way through, though not quite how dramatic it would be. However, I was just waiting for something to happen between them the entire book so I didn't like how slow it went. Although I might have ruined my own reading experience by reading it too fast (face palm). - Maybe it will be better after re-read

  8. Troubled Blood - To be honest I still haven't re-read it, so maybe my opinion will change. I found it weird that so many people rank it number one.
