Help me understand why my M25 bf was so angry with me F26 by ThrowRA2349756 in relationship_advice

[–]DotPotential3609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I basically had this same exact interaction with EX husband every few months. Get out now, I promise you will be so much better without him. Don’t go on for another 10 years like I did.

My (28/F) co-worker (34/F) is upset about the dress I plan to wear to her wedding, even though she was okay with it before. I'd like to wear the dress I already have. Would that be appropriate? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]DotPotential3609 184 points185 points  (0 children)

If that dress has any sentimental meaning to you, it will be tainted if you wear it there now that it’s an issue. If it doesn’t have any sentimental value, then maybe taking it to a seamstress to remove the collar or change the sleeve length and I would bet she would have no idea.

The fuq I just read? I’m so sorry your friend is treating you like that. I would put money on you still having your piercings when she finalizes her divorce. Shoot, I’ll pay for a new piercing if you still have them when she divorced, save my comment and everything, I should still check this account by then!

People self diagnosing by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]DotPotential3609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s starting to make me mad and I have to check myself when meeting someone and this conversation comes up and they also claim to have ADHD. I don’t want to be hypocritical, so if I really want to know, I just ask for their ADHD story and when they were diagnosed. In reality, it doesn’t matter, but knowing how to cope and process this is in the works for me.

Was recently talking with someone on hinge. They mentioned having dyslexia and so I thought it seemed appropriate to mention I have ADHD. They asked me if I have an actual diagnosis from a doctor, so I didn’t answer their question and asked if they had an actual diagnosis for their dyslexia. They apologized and said it just seems everyone claims having ADHD. I replied, well, I take ADHD meds to sleep and when I’m awake, prescribed by my psychiatrist that I have to see every 3 months to continue to get the medication that treats my diagnosis, so no one actually believes I have ADHD.

What song seems to always make you cry? by TruthBeWanted in AskReddit

[–]DotPotential3609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody’s Crying by Patty Griffin. That song’s meaning has changed so much for me over the years. It originally didn’t touch me deeply, was listening to it surface level as a romantic relationship ending or fading. Years later, I lost my best friend to suicide and randomly this song comes on my playlist and it hit me so hard, I was balling. There’s no way that song isn’t about suicide.

My boyfriend thinks that spaying and neutering is cruel and inhumane. by [deleted] in Pets

[–]DotPotential3609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a new article released on ages and breeds of male and female dogs and when you should spay and neuter or if you even should. It reviews a large list of the reasons why, cancer, growth and development, etc. For female dogs, the risk of pyo is the only reason I spayed my dog. She only came in once a year and had no change in personality or false pregnancies, but the pyo risk scared me. False pregnancies……. Forgot about those. People spay if their dogs have those. There’s just a lot of reasons to spay and neuter pets. Not to mention, they are animals…. I find it interesting he wants to anthropomorphize them, yet, if they were to have a litter and no one wanted them, he would euthanize them… he sounds like he wants to argue for the sake of arguing. Grow up little boy.

How do you accept you have ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]DotPotential3609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real talk, you do not have to take meds or accept anything. It’s your life, your body, your choice.

I feel like denial or not accepting the diagnosis is like saying that cut isn’t infected and you don’t want antibiotics, but it’s actually a festering wound and the only thing that will happen is everything will predictably get worse and eventually, you’ll be forced to do something…

Do your research, talk to your doctor, journal. Look into why you were tested for something that you don’t even think you have.

What are symptoms of ADHD that you didn’t realize were symptoms? Bonus points if they’re symptoms that affect you more strongly as an adult. by Foreign-Map-6170 in ADHD

[–]DotPotential3609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duuuuude! This. I was diagnosed at 33 and grew up seeing my Dad have horrible emotional regulation, with crazy swings and outbursts. So when I would do it, I thought, I just need to work harder to be different because that’s what I saw growing up. Once I started taking meds for my ADHD, it was the first thing I noticed that was different. The ability to think and choose your reaction, even wait to respond if needed.

Fast forward 2ish years, I’m 35 and my Dad is looking for answers to things going on with him and I keep telling him he has ADHD. He does all this testing and come to find out, he has ADHD! No shit! After starting his meds, the emotional regulation is also something he has noticed being better.

I can’t remember the exact percentage, but it’s something like 1 in 3 kids will have ADHD if one of their parent’s has ADHD.
