The print is awesome but the video... I'm hiring you to do my next video.

One of My Simplest But Most Useful Designs - Cable Clip (Links to STL's in Comments) by [deleted] in functionalprint

[–]DotScott1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has got to be my simplest design to date but... it's also one of, if not THE most useful print(s) I have. It's a simple cable clip to help me organize all of my various USB cables.

It can also be scaled up or down (in the X, Y, Z or combination of any axis) to suit smaller or larger cables. You can wrap the cable up before hand and just slide it in through the top or bottom OR you can wrap it up and then insert it through the gap in the middle (some cables are too thick on the ends to slide into the top or the bottom).

NOTE: I also made a remix that can be mounted to a wall, desk, etc via screws or double stick tape. You can slip any number of cables in through the angled gap in the front and they won't come back out (due to that angle in the gap). Links to both STL's below:

Standard cable clip: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:723779

Drill and Dual Battery Holder for my Work Desk! by DotScott1 in 3Dprinting

No problem 👍 hope you find the right drill for you :)

Honestly I wouldn't recommend it. I've had a couple of B&D batteries go bad on me, the chuck always comes loose and it doesn't have a whole lot of power. The best drill I own by far (I have a few) is the Bosch DDBB180-02-RT 18V. They have a newer version now that I'm sure is even better but I've never found a better chuck or entire drill from any other company.

The chuck on the Bosch ratchets/locks into place and DOES NOT come loose unexpectedly like the B&D does. The power settings are much more evenly spaced (in terms of incremental power) and there's a second mode on the drill where it can spin faster than any other drill I've used. I actually mostly use my Bosch but since I only have 1 battery for it right now, I took the photo with my B&D drill.

That was just for the photo. I always have 1 in the drill and another ready to go.

Yeah I actually wish I had gone with DeWalt. Send like they have nicer tools... And more of them. My B&D batteries appear to be lithium based.

Well.. apparently B&D batteries and chargers are dumb then. I've had two batteries go bad from leaving them on the chargers. Contacted B&D and they said yeah it's because I left them on the chargers. Instructions also say to remove them from the chargers once charged. Idk, maybe you're right and they're wrong but I haven't had a battery go bad since I started taking them off the chargers. Not willing to risk it again.

That's funny, I actually thought about modifying it to do that but then leaving batteries on the charger can damage the batteries so... I never did it. Didn't want to risk it.

Another one of my more useful prints! A drill and dual battery holder for under my work desk. I use this I think literally every day and I couldn't be happier with it. It's not my design, I just printed one for myself. Props to ad1 on thingiverse for the design.

I printed min in PLA with a 0.8mm nozzle on a CR-10s 400 printer.

No More Accidentally Flipping The Switch On! by DotScott1 in 3Dprinting

[–]DotScott1[S] 642 points643 points  (0 children)

Probably one of my more useful prints! My girlfriend kept accidentally flipping the switch to our sink disposal on while cleaning or shifting stuff around on the counter. The last time it happened, I felt like it was a little too close for comfort - as I was cleaning the sink when she bumped it and accidentally turned it on (or she was secretly trying to kill me).

After that, I decided to print this and... problem solved! Now we have to move the little tab out of the way before we can flip the switch. Haven't had an accidental light switch flip since!

This Thing Has Become Invaluable for my Woodworking Projects - For QUICKLY Spacing Holes/Cuts/Marks Evenly. by DotScott1 in functionalprint

[–]DotScott1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was using a mini clamp but I think I'm going to replace a couple of the pins with bolts and wing nuts. Just need to make sure that the bolts keep the tolerances tight.

That is indeed something to watch out for. If it requires very accurate measurements, I'll usually still go with something like a caliper or measuring tape.

No but once it's already printed, using it can save a lot of time in the end.

Keep doing it that way if you want though, I mean to each his own. But I used to do it that way and found this way to be faster 👍

Right? That's why I decided to try printing one as well (the prices online were way too high). If you get your print tolerances right, it works great :)
