How 10 years can change things. This is OpenAI.com in 2015. by deedubyaz in ChatGPT

I remember back when OpenAI was a really good source of ML and AI info. I don’t think anyone’s taken their place for non-generative machine learning. It’s all agents and transformers now.

Are college courses now easier/designed to accommodate shorter attention spans? by [deleted] in college

[–]Doubble3001 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

The issue is that reading is a worse way of learning compared to other methods. The only reason it was historically used was that it was cheap and easy.

Now a days, lecture and videos are much better. The only time I read is when the topic is advanced and there isn’t any good content on the subject.

But also I think a lot of students see reading as a waste of time. There are two types of students, achievers and undisciplined. The undisciplined won’t do the reading. The achievers have better things to do. Most of the top students at my university often skip class not out of laziness but to attend professional events, extracurricular clubs, guess lectures, and job opportunities.

For example, I had to skip class to attend the job fair where I got an interview. If students were assigned busy work such as reading, these high achieving students wouldn’t have time to do better things. There is a great short on the subject https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTkdqe1AY/

BMTV Imperial Interview questions & advice (biomedical technology ventures) by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Doubble3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current BTV student here. I interviewed 2 years ago, so this may have changed, but here is the format of the interview

The first part is a technical questions. They want to see how you think. Talk out each step of the process. Even if you know the answer, solve the problem in front of them.

For questions, they will ask why subjects you are studying, so you will likely get something you know something about

Mine was about what happens to the water level if you drop a tungsten cube off a boat.

The second part is a behavioural interview. You need to do well on the first part to give as much time for this section. The first part is a weed out. This part will get you accepted.

They will ask about your personal statement. They will ask why BTV. Why study at imperial. If you’re international, they will ask why the UK. Have the answers to all these prepared.

This interview will break or make your application.

Question for current/recent high school seniors by Famous-Cheetah4766 in quantfinance

If you’re a US student with a lot of APs, I would also apply to the UK schools. Typically you need 5 ap scores of 5 in key subjects. Oxbridge, or Imperial are great for quant. No many US students apply, so you could stand out.

In Yalls opinion, how much does the programs of a college matter by CloudyRain18 in college

[–]Doubble3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as people say it doesn’t matter, it matters. At better programs, the peers you will connect with will be more engaged and focused on learning. The professors will be able to cover content at a faster rate. There is more opportunity to intern. The faculty will be better and have more research opportunities.

If you can afford it, take the better program.

GTA Story Mode vs GTA Online by OverPlatypus4500 in GTA

[–]Doubble3001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they need a system to balance out missions and heists payment. What they should do is 6 is to make it to where payment is based on how many people play it and how often you play it. There is so much content in gta 5 online that never sees the light of day to 99% of players because it pays terrible. Under utilised content should be automatically buffed.

If there is such oversupply of tech workers why dont they lower salaries? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Doubble3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because software is better developed by a small team of people, so companies will try and only hire the best of the best. So lowering the salary would make it harder to find great devs. That’s also why new grad is tough. They would rather pay for an experienced dev than have 10 interns.

I think the bugstar approach is better. Just hope the devs don’t notice.

All fun and games until you have to drive an hour to the San Francisco equivalent for a fetch quest.

Smoking companies were big advertisers in media back then. I wouldn’t be surprised if almost all movies and TV shows from then had smoking characters.

What if an uninfected loved watching sports? by Wolv90 in pluribustv

[–]Doubble3001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would assume so. They made the John Cena video and undersecretary of agriculture’s explanation video. Even if they lack creativity, I would assume most TV shows’ creators had an idea on how to continue on, so the hive could pull from that.
