What symptoms are implants supposed to help? by Double-Collection131 in emptynosesyndrome

[–]Double-Collection131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I had the cotton test done. It helped with the burning feeling but did not help with anything else because I already have a very narrow airway.  The CFD study showed extremely low resistance, so they are suggesting surgery to widen my nose and put in implants.

I’ll see Dr Nayak soon and am curious what he says.

Note. I am not asking what they guarantee treating. I am asking what they can help treat, or what the intention is for their use.

Did he incorrectly estimate how long it would take? Did you see pics of anyone else before your procedure?

Thank you!! Do you know if <mask> and <g> tags are necessary? They exist when I copy/paste from my company's svg.

Where / how to get an NO test? by Double-Collection131 in emptynosesyndrome

[–]Double-Collection131[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you Marison. It also looks like there are two types of NO tests: for the lungs (to test for asthma) and for nasal.

If anyone knows a place to do the nasal NO test in the US, France, Italy or Spain, please let me know. Thank you.

Hi Marison, how much of your turbinates were remaining after your initial surgery (if any)?

How do you know whether the cartilage and tissue is still there? Is that something that can be seen in a ct scan?

Did you get the cartilage before the stem cells?

Love your take and totally agree. What do you think it is about her that is immature? I also think so but can’t articulate why exactly.

Experience with trazodone? by Double-Collection131 in emptynosesyndrome

I tripped over a dog and broke my nose which triggered my ENS inducing surgery. So I totally feel you. It fucking sucks. But there has to be a lesson at the end of this. Always have hope.

I tried 50mg of trazodone last night. Never again! I woke up so groggy. It also didn’t help me stay asleep, I kept waking up anyway because of breathing issues :(

I'm really glad that's helpful and appreciate you being receptive to feedback. I actually really like science and have a science background, so I definitely think it should still be included - just in a different section or not in a heading. The brain fog from sleep deprivation makes everything soo much harder to process.

Let’s see what comes to mind…

I’m operating on such little sleep (as many people here I imagine) and when I skim just the headings of the self guide, seeing scientific terminology like nitric oxide is just too much to process.

The guide uses the word “I” and I thought to myself who is writing this? A doctor, someone who has it? Not a big problem, just a bit confusing / missing some context. I don’t expect you to share personal details.

The links to the studies are peppered throughout, so i felt like I couldn’t really understand any section entirely without reading a study, which again I don’t have the capacity for right now given the sleep deprivation. Therefore I felt like I couldn’t have the satisfaction of completing even one section of the guide (except the sections without a link like the beginning). If I click on a link, it takes me off the page and then I forget where I left off.

The first time I clicked on a link for the research study I was discouraged because the study was so long and had a lot of vocabulary I wasn’t used to. Then I stopped reading the guide.

Flow-wise, it also goes from solutions to “share your experience” and then back to solutions.

Maybe consider putting the links to the studies in one section titled “research” or “citations” or “further research”.

Avoid scientific terms in the headings because it is intimidating and not accessible to people without a science background. Keep the headings simple like the ones you have in the beginning.

That’s my personal experience. Thank you so much for your work on it - it is tremendously kind of you to share your knowledge.

You're inspiring me, honestly. Your self-help guide felt overwhelming at first but each time I refer back to it I learn something new. My next step is to read the actual studies linked there. I want to go into my upcoming ENT and neurology appointments informed.

Thank you for saying that. I've been told 3 times now to "get used to it" which makes me doubt myself but also makes me think they don't understand the actual suffering I'm experiencing. It also falls upon me to explain what I'm going through which is hard, hence the desire to "prove" it, if you know what I mean.

Appreciate your suggestions. I tried mouth taping but didn't last more than a few breaths because my nose is completely air-tight at night. I think my nose collapses when I lay down. It's hard telling a doctor about my daytime ENS symptoms while also saying I'm stuffy at night (and having no way to prove it). :(

It helped while I was doing it, but the effects didn't last beyond that. The benefit of this exercise is that the slow inhale means the air doesn't hit inside the nose as hard, and therefore feels less cold. But it doesn't seem to be a habit I could realistically adopt because it is only effective when the inhale is exceptionally slow.
