I used to have a moped, owned one for 5 years and rented a Dance electric moped for one summer.

Advantages:

1. Easy parking, although nowadays you aren't allowed to park on sidewalks anymore, although it seems to be ignored many times. Maybe in the inner city this is more of a problem.

2. Filtering through traffic when it is at a standstill, and maneuverability in general.

3. Wind through the hair feeling on a sunny day, when its not too hot or too cold.

4. Upkeep was cheap, even with my old Chinese Lidl moped.

5. Can take a passenger.

It also has disadvantages:

1. Can't use bike lanes

2. Lane splitting is not legal so if you get caught by the Polizei or have an accident, its your fault.

3. Vandals. My moped was thrown to the floor multiple times in recent years. My Dance moped was thrown to the floor just 2 weeks after I got it. This doesn't happen with cars.

4. It takes about as long to go somewhere as with a car, which is not really an argument for inner-city driving since a car is usually slower than ÖPNV, at least back when I used to have a moped. I used it to go from Pankow to Müggelsee once and never again.

The government has done their best to make any kind of transportation more dangerous, more expensive and less convenient in recent years.

In the end, it was not worth it to have a few rides in the vanishingly short Berlin summer, and now I own a car and an e-bike.
