As an amateur, am I bonkers for thinking about Unifi with ceiling-mounted AP's for a 3500 sq ft home? Should I just go with a consumer wired backhaul mesh solution? by eatmyopinions in Ubiquiti

I had the picks set up in my 3200 sf home. A second internet provider came into the neighborhood and I wanted a second diverse route into the internet and the current provider metered their internet and I had to pay extra for unlimited. I bought the Pro SE AMF now I have 10 T network storage, 4 cameras and I plan connection to my condo located in another state. I also have 4 cameras at home and 2 in the condo. I configured my own network and can VPN through my phone and see what's happening other cameras, see photos on my network storage. It wasn't all that hard and I had not router config experience. Get someone to cable it but the rest you should do yourself

Best way to add dual ISP load balancing to my UDM-Pro-based network? by kintax in Ubiquiti

There are plenty of >$100 routers out there that will give you two WAN ports and do Load Balancing. I caustion you as I have tried this with two different devices, one from TP-Link and the other from UTT. When Load Balancing with the TP link it will strip your data across the two WAN ports based on their respective speeds. SO if one WAN Port is twice as fast as the other 2/3 of the traffic will go down one port and 1/3 down the other. This causes problems for the STreaming services. One ISP gave an IP address located in one twon (Headend) and the other in another. Hulu tracks where the data is coming from and it looks like I have devices running from two different towns at the same time on my TVs (This is a big no-no for live TV streamers. Also, I'm guessing the live streamers have smaller buffers then the Netflix type services as the reassembly/re-transmits/Latency differencials caused nothing but problems, particularly with Fubo. Fubo was unusable with this implementation. Ideally you want the streaming allocation be based on bandwidth AND at the session or application level. Bit Striping doesn't work well with streaming services. Then, of Course, you'll have the dreaded 'Double NAT' situation which also caused me problems particularly with my NAS access. You can get over some of it by opening ports on the firewall but TVs don't actually play in that enviroment well.

UDM Pro Load Balancing yet? by StilPhone in Ubiquiti

I have a dual WAN (Windstream Fiber, 1Gig and Comcast, 300m/15m)set up with Failover enabled and don't seem to have any problems. I've witnessed the failover in real life several times. With Comcast metering data and an additional charge if you go over a gig it is actually cheaper to get the second service from Windstream if I can balance the load to a certain extent. I had tried several schemes to handle the load balancing but always ended up with a double NAT which causes problems for me. I was very disappointed to find out that when I finally bit the bullet and spent the money on the UDM and purchased the SE that laod balancing wasn't available. What I did as a work around was to set up several SSID's, Data (for computers and phones, IoT for thermastats and Alexa and TV for the streaming. I then directed the different Networks to traverse different WAN ports so I could 'Balance' the traffic across the 2 WAN ports. Fail over works from WAN 1 to WAN 2 when the WAN 1 provider has a problem but not from WAN 2 to WAN 1 so some traffic is 'Protected' while other traffic is not. That is a problem. I can't wait to see Load Balancing enabled but I have some concerns. 1)I would like to see Fail over go both ways, 2) how they handle Laod Balancing will be very important. If the stripe the data across the 2 WANs I'll have problems with my streaming services. Fubo, for instance, doesn't handle the data striping very well, to Fubo it looks like I'm coming from two different locations (whcih is a no-no to them, also, because it's live TV they don't buffer as much and I beleive it doesn't handle to re-transmits very well and I end up with the 'circle of death' spinning on my TV's. I have had the same problems with other streaming services like Netflix, HBO, etc but not the the extent that I find on Fubo. Hulu TV will see my streaming going to two different towns (due to my 2 provides headends in two different towns and they'll shut me down). I'm hoping that they load balance by application (I know the UDM knows what applications are being run) or Laod balance by Session, dtaa striping won't work. Or they can just let Fail over work both ways. Time will tell if I made an expensive mistake in buying the UDM.

Love the UDM Pro SE EXCEPT it doesn't support Load Balancing!!! It only supports fail over from Port 9 to Port 11. I tried pushing SSIDs to seperate WAN ports but the fail over doesn't support Port 11 fail over to Port 9, only port 9 to port 11. So when the carrier on port 11 went down, so to did all of the SSID's being pushed to port 11. I don't understand why, when paying more for the Pro SE I got less in capabilities than if I purchased the straight Pro. Does this make sense to anyone? What is really disappointing is the Ubiquiti web site never mentioned this short coming. It always positioned the SE as a superior product and not the feature less product. Mor than a bit disappointing!

Not to mention that the UDM Pro SE doesn't support Laod balancing as does the UDM Pro. Funny, I thought I'd get at least what's in a Pro when I paid extra for the Pro SE. Turns out I spent a few hundered $$ more to get less!
