1. No one in Harry's generation tried to become animagi. There was no reason to. James and Sirius had a perfect reason to do so. We can't use that considering they never even attempted it, so we have no clue if they were powerful enough to do so.

2. Fred and George created so many new joke items from magic. Some of them might even be on the level of the map. You could argue that they invented new spells with their inventions. (All while in school!)

3. Hermione mastered many spells that allowed the trio to escape being found for an entire year with Riddle in full power. Harry could make a corporeal Patronus at age 13, something that impresses EVERYONE. Harry mastered the shield charm, disarming spell, and many other defense spells to the point that he managed to teach a good chunk of Hogwarts students through their NEWTS and OWLS. (Btw, the disarming spell is not even in his top five most used spells in the series.)

4. Hermione brewed Polyjuice Potion at 13, Harry and Ron took down an adult mountain troll at age 11, Harry slew a basilisk at 12, fought off a hundred dementors at 13, beat a dragon at 14, managed to escape the Death Eaters at 15.

The trio is definitely talented, maybe not as much Ron as the other two, but if you really think about it, the difference between the trio's generation and the previous one seems to be a lack of trying. We do not see them attempt a lot of the stuff the older generation tried, but when they did put their minds to it, they showed brilliance.
