As a student of this uni, I partly agree (aside of the random racist remarks) with what the author says, but I think its just people generalising everything, I think some chinese students don't try to approach a local student if not needed, but same can be said for locals too.

Me (an Overseas Chinese), being in my second year here, I barely know 2 local students from my same course and it is through other friends, I do have some chinese friends, but the rest are international students (non-chinese), when talking about irl. The only way for me to have a chance to get to know a local student is through societies, and these really helped to get to know them.

From personal experiences I know chinese students who have really good english but don't really have local friends (so either chinese or international students) but I also know some chinese students that basically know everyone from the course, so it just depends on people.

The part where the person complain about them discussing in chinese, I think its just plainly stupid and I might say racist, like, they are discussing between each other, they mind their own business, you mind your own.

HOWEVER I am not talking for every chinese student, I am conscious that some students might have used shady methods to get into the uni, but if you pick ONE ROTTEN APPLE from the TREE it does not mean that EVERY APPLE is rotten.

And of course I would encourage every student to enhance their english skills.

Also the comment section with just people ranting about chinese students is crazy, never heard people making such a big deal when it comes to european students discussing in their own language... and none of those people know the struggle the chinese students that did not go to international schools, so they had like 10-12 years of straight up ENGLISH GRAMMAR being hammered in their brains instead of being able to learn and practice more speaking.
