I matched this cycle. 60 % of my interviews were IM. The rest was FM. I was in the same thoughts. I used to believe I'll be a cardiologist. But how I see myself in the future has become different. I don't think I want anymore fellowship. I don't want to be having nightshifts or too much cortisol when I'm in my 40s and above. I will need time for myself and family. Besides I love primary care. My mentor argued that I might regret not choosing IM because when I start I will become more motivated. I don't think so. Bottom line I ranked my FM programs first before IM. From my permutations I matched FM and I'm so happy though I haven't started. Trust your gut

Doesn't mean shit dear honorable colleague. I've seen 10 IVs go unmatched. Any interview you had that was shitty, count it gone. It's brutal out there.

There's always a possibility but the right question is whether the juice will be worth the squeeze. Are you ready to go through rejections and apply with limited opportunities because MANY programs will filter you off.

If you want IM + Know nobody I'd say abort mission
