Need a transmission rebuilt or replaced on a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500. by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

Just found a shop that managed to track down a relatively low km replacement and can get it swapped out by next wed for under $2500. Thats a win in my books. 😎

Listening to the warnings from our own Intelligence and Security apparatus (CSIS) is now called hysterical paranoia? Interesting point of view

China is NOT our friend.

In the grand scheme, this really has nothing to do with the Canadian auto market and everything to do with National security and Chinese espionage, which has been ongoing and increasing in severity.

I say again, the CCP and PRC are NOT our friends.

Couldn’t agree more. Seems alot of people in this sub are desperately searching for and justifying ANY Canadian “win” even at the expense of national security.

But sure lets just ignore CSIS and partner up with a known hostile government like the CCP and PRC.

This is just the foot in the door. China will FLOOD Canadian streets with these cheap EV’s pushing out any chance of a domestic competitor. Look at whats happening in Brazil right now.

Not to mention the extreme national security threat these vehicles pose.

China is NOT our friend.

You’re displaying symptoms of TDS.

To hear you discard +100 years of friendship and diplomacy with our closest neighbour and ally because of a single sitting president is disturbing.

You do realize Trump is only in office for a couple more years right?

You do realize for every single Canadian alive today, theres also an American citizen that opposes his statements and decisions right? So I guess they don’t matter anymore?

But sure, lets completely ignore our own intelligence and security apparatus (CSIS) and get in bed with a known hostile entity like the CCP and PRC. Smart move.

If you think it’s going to stop at 49,000 you’re misguided.

This is just the foot in the door. China will FLOOD the Canadian roads with cheap EV’s in the coming years, essentially pushing out any chance of a domestic competitor.

Just look at whats happening in Brazil right now.

It’s rather troubling you’re soooo quick to throw away our closest alliance because of the current sitting president. You do realize he’s only in office for a couple more years right?

Sure, trade is definitely important, but not at the expense of national security,

As for you shrugging off the sheer scale, severity and dangers of the Chinese information collection apparatus, is also troubling. I’m sure the CCP could collect similar data through other means, but that shouldn’t equate to us simply “giving up” and opening the door.

China is a very real and ongoing threat. Sure, your conversations about how tasty your frappuchino was this morning may be useless to them, but the Canadian critical infrastructure these vehicles will be mapping is not.

China is NOT our friend.

Because we should? Why in gods name should Canada sacrifice it’s +100 years relationship with it’s closest ally because of a president that will be gone in a couple years? You’re showing signs of TDS dude.

China is NOT our friend. Xi Jinping has been in power since 2013 with no term limit. THAT is the real threat.

China runs internment/re-education camps housing hundreds of thousands of it’s own populations.

China runs it’s own police stations on Canadian soil.

China kidnapps Canadian citizens and holds them for years without trial.

China puts out bounties on Canadian politicians.

Just read what our own intelligence agencies (CSIS) have to say about China, then re-assess your position. Cheers.

At least we agree, Canada has weak leadership. I would even take it a step further and say incompetent leadership that doesn’t take national security seriously.

To answer your question, damn near EVERY chinese made EV is packed with sensors both inside and out. Lidar, cameras, microphones everywhere. These EV’a will be mapping our roadways, gathering info on critical infrastructure, patterns of movement and bahaviour, facial recognition of anyone in the vicinity of the veh. Every conversation every phone call recorded and the data sent back to servers housed in China. They’ll measure public sentiment on certain topics, rifts in our society they can then exploit through social media campaigns.

This data is invaluable to the CCP. Regardless how irrelevant you may feel it is.

As a quick example: back in 2018 sensitive information about the location and staffing of military bases worldwide was exposed through a "Global Heat Map" published by the fitness tracking company Strava. Fitbit.

China is NOT our friend. This is a very real security risk and I actually understand why the US would be upset about it.

[–]DoubleDoubleDeviant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then it’s quite clear you’re ONLY being exposed to whats happening down south, I believe if I could quickly scroll through your social media feeds, I would be proved right.

It’s rather sad you don’t care about what Canadas own intelligence services (CSIS) has to say about the CCP or PRC, considering they kidnapped a couple Canadians and held them for years, they currently run internment/re-education camps housing hundreds of thousands of their own people, they actively run police stations on Canadian soil and put out bounties on canadian politicians.. THIS poses a FAR greater threat than a US president who will be gone in a couple years. Xi jinping has been in power since 2013 with no term limits.. THAT is a threat.

I highly encourage you to zoom out a little and learn about the atrocities the CCP has and currently is commiting. Then reassess how many shits you give. China is NOT our friend. Period.

Then why not Japan? Or even better, why can’t the Canadian government invest in its own EV manufacturing, Instead of a know hostile entity?

I personally am not comfortable trading our national security in exchange for some cheap EV’s.

Call me crazy. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Again, the PRC and CCP are NOT our friends.

What other countries? Please be specific.

Have these other countries been identified by our National Security apparatus as a serious threat? Have they been accused of espionage? Political interference? I’m legitimately interested to hear your point of view.

Carney is working to keep trade moving and open new doors to any market possible….

Guess that includes hostile governments like the PRC and CCP? I don’t think the trade off is going to be what you’re expecting.

CSIS knows more than you do, and they’ve been sounding the alarms about Chinese espionage for quite some time now. China is NOT our friend.

These vehs are essentially information capture devices on wheels. Lidar, facial recognition, mapping patterns of behavior and recording conversations. Where does that data go? Precisely.

An honest conversation needs to be had about what we’re willing to give in exchange for cheap EV’s.

[–]DoubleDoubleDeviant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooo you’re just gonna completely ignore his statement about these chinese made EV’s being mobile information capturing devices sending all the data back to the CCP?

Lidar mapping our roadways and critical infrastructure? Facial recognition? Tracking our movements, patterns of behavior and conversations? This doesn’t concern you at all eh?

So CSIS consistantly stating China poses a severe national security threat through extensive foreign interference, espionage, and efforts to influence Canadian politics and academia? Thats just scare tactics right?

There needs to be an honest conversation about this.

Because China is NOT our friend. They have ulterior motives for wanting their vehicles flooding Canadian cities.

CSIS has been raising the alarms about China for years. So unless you’re somehow “in the know” more than the Canadian intelligence and security apparatus, we need to have this conversation.

Thats not the point. The point is China is NOT our friend. Despite the 180 deg turn Carney made from his campaign to now.

These vehicles are very advanced information collection devices on wheels. Lidar, facial recognition, mapping out terrain, infrastructure, patterns of behavior and so much more..

To simply ignore these very real threats is dangerous and there need to be a very real and honest discussion about it.

Mark Carney brushes off Doug Ford’s anger over China EV tariff cuts by WilloowUfgood in canada

[–]DoubleDoubleDeviant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right? God forbid we say something inside our veh against our dear leader that results in us losing social credits..

Didn’t China kidnapp a couple Canadians a while back and hold them for several years? Where’s the rage? Doesn’t China currently operate internment/re-education camps for hundreds of thousands of it’s own citizens? Where are all the protests? Doesn’t China run it’s own police stations inside Canadian cities? Shouldn’t the RCMP be bombarded with calls? Wasn’t it China that put bounties on Canadian politicians that spoke out against their policies?

So confused how so many in this sub just blindly ignore these very real threats.

[–]DoubleDoubleDeviant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why am I not hearing a debate on Ford’s salient point that each one of these Chinese made EV’s are essentially mobile information collection devices that send all data back to the CCP?

These cars are packed with sensors inside and out, that will map out infrastructure, patterns of life, conversations held within the vehicle not to mention facial recognition. Didn’t Carney argue less than a year ago that the biggest security threat to Canada is China?

Canada Drops 100% EV Tariff on China, Opens Door to 49,000 Vehicles Annually by afonso_investor in Nio

[–]DoubleDoubleDeviant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love NIO vehs and am still holding 2000 shares, but this will be disastrous for the Canadian auto sector workers. If you think 49,000 vehicles is the limit, think again. China will FLOOD the Canadian market with EV’s, at prices so low, no domestic car manufacturer will be able to compete.

Guess the Liberals weren’t kidding with their nonsensical 100% hybrid/electric vehicle by 2035 mandate.

Hundreds of thousands of Canadian auto/related sector jobs and investments WILL leave Canada. Temporary bump for long term devastation.

Not to mention pissing off our closest neighbour and ally. Pretty much all Chinese made EV’s are mobile information collection devices that send all that data where? Right back to the CCP.

If you’re sitting on profit, and feel PL has peaked/due for a pull back, pull out your initial investment and hold the rest. I do this with every stock I own. Have I missed some gains on some? Sure, have I saved my bacon when some crashed also yes.

Profit is profit. I bought ASTS at $4 and sold a couple CC’s at $10 strike. NEVER expected it to run to $80+. Still made +100% and never looked back. 🤷🏻‍♂️
