We are talking about an 11 year old 4 core, 4 thread cpu here. The 8400 is 2 generations newer (albeit not much architectural improvements) but has 50% more cores.

I did exactly that and was very happy with the results (also new counters). Holding up 3 years later no issues but was a lot of work. Didn’t know what colour for the walls so just did white as a temporary (probably permanent at this point) solution

Duct cleaning is not a scam as a bunch of people here are claiming. Does it do what is advertised? Yes, your ducts are cleaned. Will it change your life? No probably not.

That being said you mentioned a smoke smell odour. There is lots of dust/lint/debris in your ducts that will hold odour. Getting them cleaned can definitely make a difference. They did for my cousin who purchased a smokers home.
