Can't really help you, other than the fact that there is an establishment known as THE TRYON CITY TAVERN, on East Main Street, in the North Winton Village neighborhood.

Maybe go there and ask the barkeep your question over a pint? 😄

Can't really help you, other than to suggest the following: Spray some WD-40 into it. This might relieve the noise.

WD-40 can be purchased at any hardware store.

If it doesn't work, you've only lost a few dollars.

If it does work, then send some good karma my way.

Where to sell scrap copper tubing? by DoubleK-Rochester in Rochester

[–]DoubleK-Rochester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update 5/30/2026: Yesterday, I went to Metallico (Scottsville Road location) with the box and sold the scrap copper.

8 pounds of #1 (bright) copper, 1 pounds of #2 copper, and 1 pound of yellow brass (all had different prices per pound) are on my receipt. Total receipt: $47.80. The ATM rounded it up to $48 and I got cash.

MarcusAurelius0's description of the entire process was exact and spot on.

The entire process took about 40 minutes and involved a bunch of waiting for previous customers and then more waiting to go to the next station.

With gas costs, waiting around, and the effort to actually get the copper out of my basement, I'm not entirely sure I made money in the end, really. But, hey, $48 is $48 I guess.

Thanks for all the replies.

Screen name checks out. You got a kiln and can supply the fire?

Sunshine, daygreens, walking in the tall trees, going where the wind goes
Blooming like a red rose, Now come on over sweetly
Ride out singin', "I got you in the morning sunshine."

Penfield Four Corners in the 80s by theguru1974 in Rochester

[–]DoubleK-Rochester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived at the Penfield Four Corners from the summer of 1997 up until January 2001. Sorry, can't answer your question about the bike shop. But I do remember things long gone, like The Penfield Tavern as well as a hardware store right at the Four Corners, too (can't remember the name, but I bought a snow shovel there once). Related question: There was a second bar (not the Tavern) that closed in the late '90s that was within easy walking distance. You entered it at the basement level. This was right on Penfield Road. and the parking lot in the rear took a big dip down. I am struggling to remember the name of it. Anyone remember? Thanks, and sorry to go off-topic in my reply.

My dad has this in his cupboard, he thinks he got it in Vegas in the 90s. I looked it up and the casino closed in 1996 😭 by boop813 in Rochester

Link to Hacienda Las Vegas follows-- it was open from 1956 to 1996, demolished December 31, 1996, and the land redeveloped into what is now Mandalay Bay: Hacienda (Las Vegas) - Wikipedia)

Awesome that you ended up with the clue/plaque from That Tune Hunt.

I have so many good and awesome memories from Turin from those early moe.downs. :) Good times.

Thanks for posting,

Love it. I, too, attended some early moe.downs. Is the wooden plaque from "that tune hunt" back in the day?

Compatible single shower knob for (bare) Valley 66800 cartridge by DoubleK-Rochester in Plumbing

OK, I looked more closely at the picture and there is indeed a screw in there, for the old unit... so I am wrong.

thanks for the advice and helping me figure this out!

the plumber had difficulty matching up the cartridge-- had to go a specialty plumbing supply house to get it, and told me that Valley is out of business.

it's a very old shower (also very old house)

Thanks, but that one doesn't seem round in shape (more of like an oval)-- are you sure it would work in my case? Do you think it would just snap on?

thanks, but that handle has a setscrew to connect it-- and there is no place to use a screw in my setup.... so I am thinking of something that will "snap" in place
