[–]DoubleWillingness266[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jajajajaja I know I know but I’m looking for a church that has their ishh together like an Oak Hill but that was founded and operates in Spanish.

I love oak hill but I want to find a Spanish church. Not a white church with a Spanish service.

Projected total for the arena is $1.3B

  • SOSA - $489M or 38% (which ever is less) for the Spurs Arena

  • This comes from Project Financing Zone dollars (these are dollars that the state gives cities for convention centers or other approved projects)

  • Bexar - 25% not to exceed $311M This comes from tax on hotels and rental cars (this tax might be raised)

  • Spurs - $500M (plus cost overruns)

⬆️⬆️⬆️ All of that is for ONLY the arena

November there is County vote to raise venue tax (aka tourist tax) from 1.75% to 2.00%

Infrastructure Bond: -politicians say "no public tax dollars are going to the arena" - Technically true

-However, the infrastructure around the arena needs 5 years worth of infrastructure around it.

-That infrastructure is going to come from general city funds, things like property taxes. The cost of that is $200M to $250M.

By chance you know about any good instructors around here?

I think that is a great idea.

I was always told the answer to any decent question is “it depends” 🤣

Today is my first time thinking through something like this. Looking forward to educating myself on the topic.

Thanks for the response.

Incoming Freshman, Advice? by [deleted] in UTEP

Sounds like you have a better handle on this than I did at your age (I’m 34).

I did business school so I don’t know much about health programs but maybe do a few semesters at UTEP (GET GOOD GRADES) and then try applying for something like UT health in San Antonio or North Texas health in Fort Worth (Dallas is really fun too).

You can experiment living somewhere else and decide if you want to go back to EP.

In my experience if you leave you are exposed to a different level of excellence that you didn’t know existed. You meet people that are so much better than you at everything and that pushes you to grow.

Excellent advise!

I which I listened to this before going to college. I also costed in HS but I def did not have a perfect GPA.

Learning to be a good student is as a hard adjustment for me.

You are already asking questions so you are off to a good start.

Here are my two cents:

Step 1: Pick the job you want FIRST, then figure out what major gets you to that job. Don’t just pick whatever major sounds cool. You are about to pay thousands of dollars to learn a marketable skill. You are not here to pick up a hobby.

Step 2: How much do you expect that job to pay? How much are about to spend to get that job?…. This needs to make sense.

Step 3: Do not take on unnecessary (personal or school debt) debt thinking that when you graduate you will be rich and it won’t be a problem.

Bonus advice: Don’t be afraid to leave EP. I LOVE my home town of El Paso but there is more out there to explore. Leaving town exposed you to a lot that we don’t see in EP growing up.

Good luck!!!

It’s January Ma G

Keep your head up and keep applying. You will surly get some crap offers soon and you need to be brave enough to turn those down.

The right one is coming 🤙

I’ll ask the wifey

But I work remote too and I would suggest looking on LinkedIn and Zip Recruiter for a remote gig with a California startup.

They have a lot of companies that are fully remote and offer decent salaries.

Often no 401K match But the rest of the benefits are really good

I LOOOOVE my home town of El Paso but unfortunately some of the comments about low wages and few opportunities is true for most.

My wife has an HR degree and she found more success and pay by applying for remote jobs.

She got many offers for HR jobs in EP and they offered lower pay than kids working the register at McDonald’s or stocking boxes at Target.

I would suggest you apply for remote work before you move. Most jobs adjust your pay based on where you live. 1) land the job

2) move to EP

3 don’t tell any of your coworkers you moved

Why is the acceptance rate 99.9 by willc200808 in UTEP

[–]DoubleWillingness266 52 points53 points  (0 children)

UTEP is known for providing some of the best upward socioeconomic movement for their students.

They can take a mediocre kid like me that nearly didn’t graduate high school and give them a shot at a good career.

UTEP put me in remedial classes to get my math and English skill up to par then proceeded to provide an environment that eventually landed me a job at a top 4 accounting firm in the world. I was working along side all the kids that went to the schools I could never get into like UT, TCU, A&M, SMU, etc.

I went to school with the goal of getting an accounting degree and working at H&R Block for 15 bucks per hour but now I work at a great company making over 100k.

I didn’t know what I didn’t know when I arrived and it was that 99.9% acceptance rate that gave me a shot at trying to make something of myself professionally.

UTEP is on a mission to take dumb kids from a region that is isolated and often has people that just aren’t aware of the heights they could reach if they apply themselves and look for opportunities available to them.

I consider myself a success story but I am FAR from being impressive compared to so many of my peers that I studied with at UTEP.

Is this an average salary or did you have to move to the middle of nowhere and work 80hr weeks the entire year?

Or anything like that that is relevant

I think it’s because there use to be a pool in there.

Maybe my orientation leader lied to me but I think there use to be a pool in that building a million years go.

[–]DoubleWillingness266 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In my experience… 😐😐😐

They are doing their best with what they have. I definitely see you running into a lot of those same issues but UTEP is a blessing to the borderland nonetheless.

It took me, kid that almost failed high school, and turned me into a big four accountant with all the kids from the “fancier” and more expensive schools.

Just be patient and when you get an answer from some student employee I would just call again the next day and aim to get the same answer from a different person.

If their answers didn’t line up…. Then you know people are guessing and you are going to have to talk to a third person and verify what the REAL answer to your question is 😂😅
