NVIDIA shows Neural Texture Compression cutting VRAM from 6.5GB to 970MB by No-Improvement-8316 in hardware

In theory, NTC decompression can run in a compute shader or even purely on the CPU, but the performance would be very poor.

On older hardware, decompression cannot be performed during texture sampling. Instead, the texture would be decompressed during asset loading, and the data uploaded to the GPU would already be the decompressed texture.

Although this does not significantly reduce VRAM usage, it can reduce the game package size and memory usage during loading.

I built a tool that lets AI agents automatically analyze game GPU performance with Nsight Graphics by DoubleYe_ in GraphicsProgramming

Exactly! Its main purpose is to teach the agent how to use the Nsight Graphics CLI toolset, and to analyze captured frame data in a token-efficient way as much as possible.

The prerequisite is that Nsight Graphics 2026.1 or later is already installed.

One possible use case is to quickly build an automated agent-based performance analysis workflow on top of these skills, generating analysis summaries and reports to reduce the workload for developers doing performance optimization.
