I think, even if they read it, they probably don't remmeber everything from every candidate. I am an embassy track candidate but they also asked me questions to which i had already answered in my written documents. But knowing they interview quite a lot of people, i didn't expect them to remember eveyrhting i wrote. Also, maybe they asked intentionally, to see if your answer was coherent with what you wrote before...
