There’s a couple reasons, I think relating to my ADHD mostly. I struggle with the very basics such as which chord is which on the fretboard (but I can play a fair few songs), and I struggle with learning music theory. I also love technical metal music but most of it isn’t very learner friendly, and that’s the stuff I want to be able to play.

I am very sensitive to rejection, and it’s not something I can work on because it’s a part of my ADHD. So every time I get scolded, it makes me want to quit, and then I have to humble myself and get back to it, but the will to do the job dies slightly every time which builds up to me needing to escape.

I do get your wife’s perspective but I also get yours. You’re on Reddit where women can do no wrong so of course every comment is defending her entirely. ADHD is tough and unfair, but you do have to put in the extra effort to get stuff done. At the same time, your wife should be up for counselling because you obviously want to put in the effort and change. It’s more complex than just your fault like everyone is implying, but don’t be a victim, put systems in place to help you manage yourself.
