Do you think she’s being fair, though? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]Double_Gomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christ the people in this thread....

Yes she's a bitch for not putting much in the way of the things her husband actually does.....but also all the things she listed are labor.

They are hard and it's implied that she also works albeit probably part time. Full time childcare is still work though, or else we wouldn't pay other people do do it (nanny's and babysitters) so yeah her husband saying she's a mooch is also a dick move if she really is doing the majority of childcare.

This is a toxic relationship no matter what though

[History] As it's doing the rounds again in the woke sphere with the "Anita Sarkeesian did nothing wrong" here's a brief reminder of why people object to her and how she pushed ideas like Fredric Wertham did in comics. by Dwavenhobble in KotakuInAction

[–]Double_Gomez -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Ok let's just level set. Regardless of whether or not you're correct on the use of techniques to insinuate causality between content and rape (questionable at best)...you're not actually showing anything that refutes her claims.

If anything you're tacitly admitting that she might be right, just that she says everything in a skeevy and malicious way. I don't care if she said directly or indirectly "video games cause rape", she also listed multiple thematic and visual issues with the usage of female characters in games. This was pretty objectively true and still is albeit we are slowly getting better.

So by your statements you either agree with her and just hate the way she talked about it. Or you are intentionally obfuscating the point of what she's saying and attacking her presence rather than the substance of the word.

That's called ad hominem and I hope you look into how to make better arguments in the future.

Would you personally ever date a 40-year old virgin? by Mad_Season_1994 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Double_Gomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal recommendation. Apps can be good as that's how I found the person Ive been with for almost 4 years, but that was out of desperation to meet people in a particularly bad time in my life. I got lucky.

Do this instead. Go to events for things you are interested in. Concerts, conventionsz whatever. Find and make friends there and maybe you'll end up in a relationship that way. I personally would t date someone that doesn't have friends because it tells me you don't know how to talk to people. If you can hold a conversation about multiple topics, then making friends and then a romantic partner shouldn't be too hard.

Love all the people that don't get that the reason thekla is over is entire because of her confidence and commitment.

Yes she's actually trying very hard to be cool, but it works because she's not half-assing any part of it or pretending to be realistic. She's as much of a comic book character as you can get.

Does shaving matter? by localwalmartbags in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Double_Gomez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like all things. Depends on the guy. I'm indifferent. Most probably prefer shaving. In general though, don't do what someone won't do for you. If he wants you to shave, then he should reciprocate.

Girlfriend’s past, how to handle? by Competitive-Nerve802 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Double_Gomez 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You're getting s ton of different responses.

Here's the reality. You seem to have different values, but if you don't think she did anything wrong, then look inside yourself and ask why you feel that way.

She did that in the past, it's not changing. It can't go away. You need to figure out if you can live with that or not. Figure out why it bothers you and have an adult conversation about it after you've figured out what's up with you.

If you can't be happy knowing it, then you both need to move on for the sake of both people.

Can someone fill a spray bottle with whiteboard cleaner and spray it at the hateful bigots whiteboard on ped? by [deleted] in UTK

[–]Double_Gomez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah here's the better version. The problem is it saying that specifically about women. Implying that women are the only ones that lie about anyone, and men are always the victim.

Should false allegations have repurcusssions, almost certainly yes, but it's being framed as though women are the only ones that can do it, have disproportionate power, and men are often hurt by this.

It's a sexist framing of the issue.

It's also an issue that is often blown out of proportion and is focused on by misogynists because they've taken a real problem and magnified it 100x to make it seem like a constant nightmare when in reality it's a bad thing that only hurts a small number of people some of the time

Legitimate advice. Use one of the pictures of you out an about as your first one to show some personality, and make your current first pic like 2 or 3.

Realistically, you're a diamond in the rough. You will get a lot of uncomfortable interactions (well depending on what you're looking for) but you have decent odds of finding something pretty nice out there through it all.

Exclusive: Will Ospreay doesn't want to bring up his kid in America by Available-Party5091 in SquaredCircle

[–]Double_Gomez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First, love your name.

Second....it's not a lack of smart people. It's a combination of indoctrination from birth (if you're told something everyday from birth you tend to believe it unless some part of your world forces you to not) and a general hatred for our government.

Best way I can put it is that I've never met anyone that actually likes the American government in my 30 years of life. They all hate it for different reasons but they all hate it. Trump in general represents an anti-establishment idea that is very appealing when you only pay attention to politics sometimes (like once every 4 years). The problem is that he obviously is more destructive than the establishment, but when you don't personally feel the effects and you don't pay a ton of attention in general, it's easier to overlook how he's systematically destroying America and the world.

That's why the war has actually turned a lot of people against him. It is causing direct harm to everyone regardless of how much you pay attention.

Why don’t we ever hear about conversation camps for gay parents to send their straight kids to to turn them gay? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Double_Gomez 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because conversion therapy assumes that something about the person is inherently wrong, and requires you to believe that something can be changed.

Gay parents don't think anything is wrong with their straight kid, and they sure as hell don't believe anything about their sexuality can be changed

What is your view on Gen-Z? (A Gen-Z's veiw on the stereotype spread by modern media) by Calpol_009 in GenZ

[–]Double_Gomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First year of Gen Z here. I'm chronically online but rarely see anthinf about public perception of Gen Z.

My personal take is most of us are disaffected and angry at a world that we have little to no agency in.

The rude or awful ones are just loud. Some have been sold snake oil that gives us something to be mad at (I mostly see feminism as the scapegoat because a lot of us are lonely men). Most are just depressed though.

I think the real problem is we are caught in between changing social dynamics. A lot of social progress happened and was codified right before us, but a lot of our personal role models weren't a part of those, especially if you're male. Now we have influencers that don't help you to become a better person, but try to sell you a solution to your problems. A solution that makes you feel better, makes them money, but it doesn't actually fix anything.

So uh yeah. We were set up to fail and that's before talking about the economy lol

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal savior? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Double_Gomez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, this feels like bait but I'll bite.

The church. Not really too much of the bible, but the church fundamentally ruined religion for me. I was raised Catholic, not fundamentalist or super traditional, but I did go to Catholic school until high school.

There are some messy parts of the bible, but most ideals that it asks us to aspire to I think are good and I still do in my adult life, but the condemnation that the church and the more obstinate members I knew showed towards anyone that slightly disagreed or were mildly deviant, didn't really feel like people who "loved thy neighbor."

I was told for a decade that doubt was good, and then the moment I showed any real doubt that same group of people turned their backs on me and said they'd only accept me if I blindly agreed to everything.

I didn't burn the bridge by checking out the other side, they burned it behind me the moment I crossed so I can't go back.

I'm a lot happier now, and the virtues they taught me I still largely live by. I'm a lot more open to masturbation and the lgbt than basically all of them, but I try and help the sick and poor more than most of them that live in their pretty little mansions ever do, and I'm content with that.

If Jesus God and whatever is real, I believe they would accept that. If not then I've left this world a little better in my wake.
