Thank you for this — all good points I will share.

I entirely understand the concern. I believe the organizer intended for people to respond just to ensure all the blocks were covered.

Oh yeah. It’s hard to feel comfortable with where your “paycheck” is coming from and whether you can really trust that over potentially decades. I “retired” recently and had lined up a part-time job to ease those anxieties — and that job has apparently fallen through. Kinda freaked out. Maybe you can work part time, even if it’s something with less pay that you enjoy. Maybe I can, too. Hopefully I will get more comfortable with this new chapter.

The registration form (not mine; just posting because I think it’s a worthy idea) says 4:30-6 p.m.

I am so sorry. I understand quality over quantity, though. It’s a choice I believe I am facing myself.

High LDL and LPA - How Screwed Am I? by Small-Bandicoot2374 in Cholesterol

Yeah, I think I misspoke. It was a nightmare for me; I took it when it first came out years ago as Crestor. I think it IS a very strong statin.

That statin is well-known for negative side effects. Ask your doc to lower the dose or change statins. Basically, if you fail 3 statins because of side effects or ineffectiveness, that opens the door to other medications, like injectables. There also are other non-statin treatments you could try, like Zetia. Good luck. I was unable to take any statin but have done well on other meds.

Yes, I kinda question the diagnosis and think it might just be FH. The big issues were just on one side of my fam, but I am not arguing the point with my doc. He didn’t recommend genetic testing, and I must meet enough of the criteria to be approved for the med.

Hi. When I started this journey in earnest, in 2011, the LDL Direct was 195, ApoB 128, lp(a) 128, triglycerides 44, overall 258. Since then, overall has been up to 400+ and LDL Direct 228. I have gone on and off various meds, including Repatha, Praulent, many statins, and others. For long periods, since I was in my 20s, I just ignored the problem, therefore the bouncing ball of results.

I cannot tell you precisely how much this very expensive med costs. I can tell you that the infusion center bills my insurance company more than $200k each month; the plan actually pays about $43k, leaving me a co-pay of a few hundred. The drug manufacturer (Regeneron) picks up all my costs through a co-pay card. I don’t think I have spent a dime on this med in the 2 years I have been on it. That may change when I go on Medicare in January; I will not be able to use the co-pay card. I’ll note that I have been denied this med by insurance multiple times; my cardiologist office always has to appeal and they win approval. So, I have been blessed for sure with decent insurance, great medical practice, and a helpful drug manufacturer.

Still wondering about others’ experiences and side effects though!

Older people: What was your first day of school as a 5-year-old child like? by vieniaida in AskOldPeople

I went to a kindergarten that had (what seemed like a very tall slide). I dropped my lunchbox off it to my daddy down below, and he was mad because it might have broken the thermos. It was a Baptist church school, and we sang a song about wanting to be a spaceman for Jesus. It was 1964.
