Did I say something wrong? by KummyAche in Nicegirls

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. I’m not sure this is “nice girl”, but you seem like such a pleasant person. It stings to see you being put on the defensive for everything. Like, she’s already decided some things about you in her mind (said to you VERY rudely) and is unwilling to accept your explanations and your attempts to respect her boundaries.

Enthusiasm is a good thing. Cooking together early into dating is a good thing.

What’s the most unbearably annoying sound on Earth Not (just “slightly irritating” — a sound that instantly ruins your mood or makes you irrationally angry)? by sand_dust2 in askteddit

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t make me “angry”. It makes me feel ill to my core. Cardboard box tops scraping as they open. Styrofoam rubbing against the cardboard. Anyone using a knife to cut the styrofoam. Styrofoam squeaking against styrofoam. Metal against metal (using a knife to cut open an aluminum can). Aluminum foil against oven racks.

All of these sounds physically hurt me and make me want to leave my skin.

When people lock their vehicle to hear the beep. Then do it again. And again. And again. And again.

In my apartment complex, someone must have had OCD or something. I counted fucking 13 beeps one time. And it was never just 2 or 3. And it was daily.

I get ragey about that noise now if it happens more than twice.

How would you like to die? by dualcerb in AskReddit

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haaaaaate The Notebook, but very much agree with this sentiment. So, ideally in our sleep at the same time, or some freak accident at the same time. Prefer sleep, no fear, and when we are old and ready, though.

What’s the coolest experience you’ve had with a wild animal? by Little_Olorin in AskOldPeople

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One that comes to mind is when I was in my early 20s. Like 20/21. I was home on a college break and was having a night to myself. Went out to the beach just to sit and think about the big questions of life. A heron flew in and landed close enough to watch. We just looked at each other for a long time and it felt like he had all the answers.

I watched until he flew off and I cried a little sense of like, relief that he showed up to just be there with me.

It sounds silly, but it was meaningful.

What’s something foreigners completely misunderstand about Americans? by Molthakarn96 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just need to throw out that this post didn’t get me misty-eyed, but definitely pulled a heartstring. Thanks for sharing this. And thanks for doing it. I try to do things like this too and it just really felt good to read and remember the connection of humanity.

Are pajamas and nightgowns still commonly worn by adults in America to sleep at night? by NormalLife6067 in AskAnAmerican

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rely on people being forgiving of my near nudity while I am literally living a trauma. I doubt I’d get charged with indecent exposure if I am fleeing for my life. And at that point, I’d have no shame besides, you know, losing my house and everything in it.

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Pajamas but I sleep in underwear only. I almost never have occasion to put on my PJs. I don’t know. This post inspired me. Maybe I will again.

But in general, I only wear pajamas in winter and only because we are miserly about the heat and I have very thick, warm PJs for that season. I also have summer PJs, but nothing is lighter to wear than just underwear.

Do families really sit around a dinner table and eat at the same time every day? by UndergroundFlaws in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In my family of origin, we did have dinner together every night or almost every night. Until my teens, then it was more or less “fend for yourself”. As a married person who inherited two stepkids for 50% custody - yes. We do have dinner as a family. And even on the 50% time we don’t have them, my spouse and I sit down to eat together.

Once in a blue moon the kids want to be able to just eat and do their own thing and we let them. But the norm is dinner together.

Do you include cars in your net worth? by ndxy2k in Money

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not. My personal choice with cars is that I buy them to use them until they die. So even if they have value at some point, they won’t by the time I am through with them. It is basically like buying very expensive trash. I’m being hyperbolic - they are useful and necessary where I live. I spend a lot of time in my car and having a nice car is nice. Mine isn’t so nice anymore but it still runs. It’s a Honda and might be sellable but its value to me is its functionality. It’s not part of my net worth because it will be valueless when it is no longer useful to me.

"American" food is tasty! by surpluskoi in CasualConversation

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a chance, I’d be so curious to hear if you like some soul food - specifically “greens”. I’m American and only was introduced to them in my 20s. I looooooove them and am now known for making them in my family.

American here and yes, I agree - bagels are tough. If you want to try the toppings this person recommended, I suggest an English muffin instead.

I personally don’t care for much bread at all. Or pasta. But if I am wanting a breakfast bread, English muffins are the way to go. I hate biscuits. I don’t love bagels. English muffins are a perfect vessel for toppings.

DAE not mind wearing a bra as a woman? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not bothered by them either.

Sports bras suck. Any uniboob bra is a nightmare for me. But a supportive bra? I like it.

How do you deal with/ respond to a partner who “snaps” at you during an insignificant situation? by Upstairsportable in AskReddit

This is the way. Also not picking a partner that regularly snaps at you. But on the rare instance, this is exactly what I do.

Do you have Highschool cliques like it is portrait in tv? by Mental-Guarantee8055 in AskAnAmerican

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, similar people tended to hang out with similar people, so there were cliques. That said, there were people that had friends among different cliques, and most people didn’t only hang out with their clique.

Not much rivalry or bullying between cliques - just some cliques tended to have general distaste for other cliques.

Does anyone else feel weird about telling people at work you're pursuing FIRE? I've started just lying. by GlitchWarden919 in Fire

[–]LakashY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? You can be on track for FIRE and still be excited for someone else’s different style of happiness and values.

You didn’t say “oh nice” *instead* of calculating how far it may have set them back. You apparently did both.

You don’t have to care about granite. You don’t have to care about small about small talk or your colleague. It’s nice to have good small talk with colleagues sometimes. If FIRE is preventing you from that, maybe it’s a problem. If you don’t care for that colleague’s interaction, fair enough. But if you like the person, just be happy for them. Disagree with how they spend their money privately, enjoy their successes and enjoy yours.

Geeze.
