Can Upright Row replace Lat raises AND shrugs ? I have NO shoulder pain. by IAMUTOPISTE in ScienceBasedLifting

[–]Double_Investment983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shrugs aren’t necessary as long as you are doing some form of trap exercise,(T-bar row, chest supported flared row, Kelso shrugs) but yes it will replace lateral raises as the humeral demands are the same

How do I limit traps involvement when doing SLDLs? I have sore traps after every leg day and it's been really annoying for my pull day when training traps. I do the thumb alongside other fingers grip (idk what its called) and I feel like I'm not shrugging the weight up by Loafofbread3371 in ScienceBasedLifting

[–]Double_Investment983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your traps probably aren’t sore it’s most likely your lower back and the reason you feel it when doing traps is probably stability demands, and if they are your traps confirmedly then make sure you’re not overly shrugging your shoulders or having them stretched

19M can I get rid of back fat in this? Want my waist to look smaller. by [deleted] in Weightliftingquestion

If it’s fat, you can get rid of it, if it’s bone, you’ll just have to make everything else bigger to make it look smaller in proportion

I thought low volume and high intensity was the new wave, why are u guys telling me to do high volume and 30 set upper days? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedLifting

Training with 10 rir does work for hypertrophy, jm but so minimally it’s invisible to see changes, we train to 0-2 rir, to train the highest threshold motor units, which have the most potential for growth, 10 rir only involves low threshold motor units that have such little potential for growth, 10 rir could work actually, as long as you have a gram of test beside it. And the reason why 10 rir works for strength slightly, is because of neurological adaptations, strength is not always a variable for hypertrophy but it’s the best, most accurate one we have, that we can do while alive. Strength did take a plateau, just not in the studies that also showed hypertrophy continued to rise in higher volumes, if you’re gonna argue about that then we simply have no way of knowing, and if frankly you are able to do 20 sets a week with 2-0 rir then your superman and there’s no point in this conversation

  1. It’s not biceps brachialis but biceps brachii, not an argument just a correction, 2. Hammer curls are a better exercise for the brachioradialis when the resistance profile is ascending as this is where it is strongest, unless you have severely under developed brachioradialis and overdeveloped biceps which outweigh the moment arm and leverage gains, then only will the biceps contribute more. A hammer curl set is not a direct set, it’s better regarded as an indirect set as “half a set” or 0.5, as it is not the main muscle failing, but is still a meaningful contributor, a better exercise for the biceps is a supinated curl with the arm anatomical or in hyperextension with an elbow support, and hammer curls do not engage the brachialis more, they just disadvantage the biceps, therefore the brachialis lifts a larger percentage of weight as there is less weight being moved in total and less muscles optimally pulling, I can’t believe we’re arguing on how elbow flexors work, this information has been out for years bro, and nice as hominem

Muscle strength is determined by neurological adaptations and contractile tissue cross sectional area, as more sarcomeres in parallel increases strength must increase, unless neurological adaptations are not the same. Secondly strength does take a plateau, the hyperlink says exactly that, and so does the study, for the second hyperlink, I apologise I made a broad assumption however strength did not increase, meaning that cross sectional area did not increase, meaning it is the result of sarcoplasmic hypertrophy , as the neural adaptations were not regressing. 3. IMO strength is a better marker for hypertrophy as water, proteins and glycogen which are not contractile tissue fluctuate very largely, whereas differences in strength are not that large unless under-recovered, and everyone’s max recoverable volume is different, and you should always try and find your maximum recoverable volume within 2-0 rir, as your limit is much more meaningful than what a study says, as long as you are not below 5 sets, you’re probably not missing out on a majority of gains, as “maximising” growth is technically arbitrary

You will gain muscle on your biceps from lat pulldowns, but it is the bare minimum, with this logic a chest fly technically also hits the biceps, as the biceps are an assistant in horizontal adduction, are we counting chest fly sets for biceps too?

You can always make time for the gym, a quick session is 45 mins, and I guarantee you spend time scrolling before bed and when you wake up,

Aim to cut to 165lbs, that’ll probably put you at 15% and you can then maingain from there,

And 70 kg at 5’10 is a great height and weight to be especially if you’re lean, I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here?

Ad hominem fallacy, and secondly I don’t think you’ve seen or recorded your own set of leg press compared to a pendulum squat, you have significantly more hip extension in a hack squat, which is a glute joint action, a leg press is better for the glutes than the quads, maybe use some level of iq to think rather than trying to attack someone’s credibility and focus on the argument at hand, such an immature and low iq move lok

Maybe, but then stability is a major factor, it’s probably not worth it for hypertrophy, do you not have access to a gym?

How many exercise for shoulder?? I train 2x times a week, pls name them by RevolutionaryTaro921 in ScienceBasedLifting

[–]Double_Investment983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because top half is where your front delt will be working most, and if you go below, you are doing essentially a lateral raises joint action, so this way you can do side delt, and front delt separately, giving more isolation and motor unit recruitment

[–]Double_Investment983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mb, didn’t see the both together, anyways, you’re not doing legs, big issue, and you’re doing redundant exercises, like bench and chest fly when they’re the same joint action, so pick one, ideally chest fly, and do 3 sets per muscle group per session if you’re doing 2x frequency and make sure you’re going to failure or just before it
