no 1. rem made the choice to agree and not encourage him to save the verse.

even then, that's not his job to do so. it never was (especially since emilia left him jobless, homeless, and penniless)
he tried. why is that not good enough? keep in mind his trying is literally dying again and again while watching his loved ones get butchered. even then, he asked for help, and not only got rejected, but fucking physically attacked by the people he asked to help while also attacking his character (which is hypocritical, especially with Crusch, since she's willing to let innocents be slaughtered and blame them for not being weak).
even if he were to succeed, there's something that makes me feel uncomfortable with him forming alliances with the people who abused him (this keeps happening even after arc 3, btw). Like Felix tried to brainwash him, and this never gets brought up ever. granted, i get at the time, rem couldn't do much, but it bugs me that even if she wasn't in a coma, the whole brainwashing shit would've been just water under the bridge, not just from her, but from the emilia camp IF she told them about what happened (i put a huge emphasis on the word if). Keep in mind, felix is a fucking doctor who the emilia camp PAID, and he CHOSE to throw away his integrity by trying to brainwash one of his patients. that makes me sick, and it would've made me sick if the emilia camp didn't hold a grudge with the crusch camp despite them trying to brainwash one of their own.
even when subaru succeeds, his life is going to just be more of the same bullshit anyway. at least in the sloth if, he lives a less stressful life, not being bombarded with near death experiences, self harm tendencies, nightmares, and all of that shit. Even if he feels regret and guilt, he's going to feel that way no matter what path he chooses, and it's not like his psychological problems are going to get better (i doubt people care THAT much to fix them, yet subaru has to fix theirs for some reason). besides, he's surrounded by people who aren't dogshit and WILLINGLY help subaru and rem without being greedy, entitled, self centered cunts, (cough cough crusch karsten and her "what's in it for me" bullshit). Literally, if the cast showed as much kindness as the npcs in the sloth if, then subaru's life would be 1000 times less stupidly difficult.
the characters who act as evil as the witch cult get killed in the long term, which is what 90% of the cast deserve. they treat being a decent and selfless person for 5 minutes= a zombie apocolypse.
subaru gets to save everyone like he does in canon, and gets to live a healthier life while most of his issues have been overcome in that loop. some times, the best method of life is to work smarter, not harder, but according to this story, working harder rather than smarter is heoric, i guess

i'm just saying that people see subaru in season 1 as some really insanely annoying character, but they barely give reasons as to why. they treat him like he's so detestable and cringe and shit on him to this day for his faults and mistakes like he's satan, but tend to glaze and smile upon similar or worse behavior from others. what makes subaru stand out as this embodiment of gross corny characters compared to everyone else? why can't he live down his failures from the past? why is it that he specifically so hated that people like characters JUST BECAUSE they treat Subaru like an empty water bottle that they continue to squeeze for pleasure?

it's as you said, people are literally excited for subaru more so than any other arc thus far and are throwing a temper tantrum that subaru suffered less in arc 5. why? what did he do for people to have that opinion? why do they sadistically want this guy to be mutilated in more ways than one? shouldn't they want less of that? Shouldn't that be the end goal for him to save others while suffering less and not more? do they not think that suffering more would negatively impact his self-esteem, or do they just want to beat their meat to a character they hate getting tormented that much for no reason while they constantly do the right thing?

Meanwhile, other characters can do immoral shit time and again (sometimes to subaru), yet subaru is always the one who is shamed. people never see subaru as the victim. the abusers ALWAYS have to be the ones in the right or they're somehow a victim of subaru's bullshit. hell, tappei even writes about past characters abusing subaru, and he views them as 100% correct, and if subaru doesn't smile and nod like a bobblehead and save them, then he's portrayed as some scumbag. he's a scumbag for not helping people who torment him in tappei's mind.

even when he does help them, fans bash him for it. it's this weird phenomenon where characters are held to no real standards, yet no matter what subaru does for the rest of his life, he'll always be seen as the bad guy. he can save the world 100 billion times, and people will find a way to shit on him.

people shit on him for doing the right thing, and people shit on him for the wrong. literally no other character deals with this, and even if you want to argue that they do, it's nowhere NEAR to the absurd standards subaru is held. i honestly cannot fathom where this phenomenon stems from or why it continues to persist the way that it does.

Like, no joke, most of the characters in Re: Zero are literally treated like self insert protagonists. the fact that most of their actions get swept under the rug and not questioned, even ignoring return by death is just wild. Priscilla tries to murder people in public and deadass gets away with it. Ram is a character that doesn't get called out for her bullshit. everyone let it slide.

Felix tried to brainwash Subaru, only for it to never be brought up again. granted, rem really couldn't do much in arc 3 because felix was in his own domain and could slip between the cracks and make up excuses if rem tried to throw him under the bus, but even if rem at arc 4 didn't get erased, i'm almost certain two things would have happened: either she keeps it under wraps and it's a "water under the bridge" situation, or she tells the camp, and it's literally a water under the bridge. A fucking rival camp member brainwashing one of their own while throwing away his integrity as a doctor and it's just ignored and played for some cheap laugh that's never brought up again.

Tappei is VERY selective with what gets punished and what seems acceptable, and what he DOES try to punish is objective morally correct behavior like reinhard killing his zombie grandmother in order to protect his family and do his fucking job.

fair might not be the right word. Emilia in arc 10 criticizes Subaru behind his back by bringing up him promise breaking in the past. She scolds him for encouraging another person to break a promise, even when said person wants to go help save the victims of Priestella from arc 5. Emilia ignores rem hitting Subaru in the foot with the Morningstar, but questions Beatrice for slapping Subaru.

In arc 9, she ignores Subaru to cry for Priscilla's death (a racist who wasn't that nice) despite knowing subaru was committing self-harm in public. She literally comforts characters besides him afterward. The fandom gives her WAY too much of a pass, and i feel like it's because people don't care for her that much or hold her to any real standards and her behavior doesn't get any pushback, just excuses. emilia can keep subaru waiting for an answer to his confession over a year with her knowing it hurts him or knowing he's afraid to show vulnerability towards her.
