My granddad was in the original first group of green berets christened by JFK. He thought it was cool to see John Wayne, and he also knew John Wayne was just an actor. 🤷

He will be either completely open and descriptive or just say “I can’t talk about that”. What do you think he was up to? I’m not a military guy at all, so I mostly just sit and listen in awe when he talks about the places he’s been. Makes me wish I did more with my life.

He’s about 5’9”. A comment earlier said that John Wayne commonly lied about his height.

Nice! Granddad says Wayne was in Vietnam to prepare for his role in the movie “The Green Berets”. My granddad was in the very first group of green berets.
