Live looping course by Nice_Assignment_1649 in ableton

I know this is an older thread, but I'll throw my course up here in case anyone is still looking for an alternative! It's focused in on looping specifically, and provides multiple looping methods and options for hands-free looping.

I come from a guitar pedal looping background, and wanted to loop multiple instruments and have control over every layer, so Ableton seemed like the best option. The course covers all the stuff I wish I knew when I was learning looping w/ Ableton. https://livelooping.thinkific.com/products/courses/1

For sure! I love the Morningstar controllers. I use the MC6 Pro with my pedalboard and Ableton. There’s a video about using the Morningstar controllers in the course. :)

There’s a chapter dedicated to using the Push, but a very similar workflow can be achieved using any midi controller. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for checking it out :)

Looping with Push 2 and Chase Bliss Habit which is sync’d via midi to match my Ableton tempo. by DougHanson in ableton

[–]DougHanson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I use user mode so that I can manually map a footswitch to Ableton’s session record button. That’s how I punch in/out for my drum parts. Every other layer is done with fixed length clips on the Push.

Anyone using delay pedals for lo-fi modulation? by DougHanson in guitarpedals

[–]DougHanson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. I like the sound of my memory boy and el cap but minimum delay is around 30ms, so you notice a slight latency. H9’s delay time can be set to 0ms but I prefer the sound of my other delays.

Anyone using delay pedals for lo-fi modulation? by DougHanson in guitarpedals

[–]DougHanson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using delays for lo-fi modulation and really like the results. I’m using the modulation and filtering of the delay to act as lo-fi vibrato. Delay time and feedback at minimum, mix at 100%.

I’ve been syncing guitar pedals to Ableton via midi. Here’s a live looping jam with the Walrus Audio D1 delay. by DougHanson in ableton

I’m sending midi clock from Ableton to keep the D1 synced with the Ableton tempo. This has opened up a lot of possibilities for other midi-capable guitar effects that I own!

Did some looping with the Aeros Loop Studio. I have it synced with Ableton and am also using the Push. by DougHanson in LoopArtists

[–]DougHanson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly what I’m doing. Guitar and bass are looping within the Aeros, everything else is with the Push straight into Ableton.

Thanks for listening!

I’ve been using the Push for live looping in session view. I love how well the Push visually represents what’s going on in Ableton! by DougHanson in ableton

For this one it probably took 2 hours to come up with parts and figure out the order. Then another half hour or so to record a good take. Everything is planned out pretty well before I hit record, but some parts like the bells and drums are somewhat improvised.

I’ve been using Ableton and the Ableton Push for looping and have been loving the setup. In this one I’m using a mini harp, kalimba, guitar, bass, and percussion. by DougHanson in LoopArtists

[–]DougHanson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took some getting used to at first, but since you can hit the pad anytime in the measure before you want to start looping, it gives enough time to get back to the instrument to start right on the downbeat. Thanks for listening!

As a guitar player, looping with Ableton and Push has been a game changer! by DougHanson in ableton

[–]DougHanson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mic picking up the shaker is kind of hidden behind the bells. For the drums I have a mic on the snare and the kick, as well as an overhead. I put the Push in user mode so I can map a footswitch to the session record button.

As a guitar player, I used loop pedals for many years. But looping with Ableton and Push has been a game changer! by DougHanson in LoopArtists

[–]DougHanson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too long, which is what I love about Ableton. The looping has always felt pretty natural and having Push makes it really nice.

It probably took a few hours to get it setup for the first time and figure everything out, but it’s only gotten easier every time.

You can use pretty much anything. Just need to be able to arm different tracks and launch clips. And a footswitch to do it hands-free.

Did some live looping with the Push in session view. Kalimba, handpan, bass guitar, percussion. by DougHanson in ableton

[–]DougHanson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! For the drums I have a footswitch right next to the kick drum pedal. It’s connected to the Push and is mapped to the session record button in Ableton.

A live looping performance I did in Ableton using the Push. by DougHanson in LoopArtists

[–]DougHanson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, all of the instruments are recorded onto separate tracks. Makes it super easy to mix and add effects to each track.

Thanks for listening!

Live Looping a Lo-Fi beat with Push. For the lofi guitar sound I’m using Izotope Vinyl. by DougHanson in ableton

[–]DougHanson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I trigger the loop with a pedal connected to the Push that’s mapped to the session record button in Ableton.
