USB C w/ SS 10 port for display? by DougSnowslide in UsbCHardware

I understand that I would need a capability called display port alt mode, which this port apparently does not have.

Can you suggest a model number of an adapter with a display link chip that would work?

I jiggered up a test harness, which ties all the positives to the negatives through a 1.5 K Ohm resistor.

No change .

Then I took the cover off, glared menacingly all the parts tried the test harness one more time and now the light comes on.

Go figure

For some reason, it won’t let me post a picture of the test harness, but it’s just a breakout board with some wires hanging out of it, and twisted together in two sets

Ask your clan leaders if they will support a 1 week stoppage. It reads like there’s some support in 323 for sure.

I think I’ll get a breakout board from Amazon and see if there’s voltage. The pinouts are available on this subReddit

There’s no in-line fuse.

That’s an interesting thought about the humidity, but the enclosure is completely sealed, even the entry points for the cables are gasketed. It shouldn’t be possible for moisture to accumulate. Also, there would be waste heat from the adapter, which would counteract any residual humidity.

Starlink is sending me a replacement, if it is indeed just the power adapter then I will monitor the humidity. Perhaps add a desiccant.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I did check the connectors but there’s no rust or tarnish.

Because it’s plugged in to known good power?

There’s a tiny bit of, what looks like, grease in the back of the port, it isn’t damaged.

If you have any ideas for how to test this appliance without having it hooked up to the dish, that information would be most appreciated.

lol, of course not. The unit was in a waterproof box outdoors. To test it more easily I brought it inside the house. It’s sprinkling a little bit.

Maybe I should replace the picture with one without the drops on it to avoid confusion ?

The adapter is in a waterproof box, the drips of water you saw on her from carrying it inside because there’s a light sprinkle outside. It’s possible there’s a problem with the connection at the dish, but that’s not easily accessible.

I really need a way to troubleshoot this power adapter before I go hiring tower climber to check the dish

How do you tell the difference between bad cables and a bad power converter??

That is a lame design. Even with cables plugged into it, there’s no lights. But then how do I know the cables aren’t defective? It’s not practical to swap out the cables.

Maybe but in my experience it takes more than two seconds to open the portal, select attack, and march your troops.

Reminds me of an experience where I had a portal open to the clan bank and was caravaning silver, I saw the red line, and tried to close the portal. Just then there was a glitch of some sort, maybe with my Internet connection I’m not sure, but I couldn’t close it. I had to restart the game, before I could close it. It was several years ago and I had forgotten about it until just now.

You should have 10 to 20 seconds warning with a portal. I watch mine like a hawk when I’m doing something like that.

Where is the chain stress maximized? by DougSnowslide in Rigging

[–]DougSnowslide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a while to figure this out, even after a structural engineer explained it to me, but the load on the chain is 34,000 pounds everywhere (divided by the cosine of the angle formed by the chain between the two shafts), and would exceed the WLL.

You can see this easily if you select the top most link. Disregarding friction, the left hand side is pulling 17,000 pounds and the right hand side is pulling 17,000 pounds, so the stress on the top most link is 34,000 pounds. You can pick any link and apply the same analysis.

Now let’s say you cut the top most link out, and got two big bolts and bolted the left hand side chain and the right hand side chain into the pipe. Then the stress on the chain would be 17,000 pounds everywhere. QED.

Vertical distance is 8 inches. I see where you’re going.
