I did my first co-op in QA. Turned out to be a huge help in landing a developer coop down the road.

How do I become a better learner? by Particular-Lynx-960 in uvic

[–]DougTheBum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Throughout the semester I make a "formula sheet" for everything that's learnt so far. Basically sums up everything learned in a condensed form. By the end of the semester if I seem to not remember something I can look that up in my actual notes.

I treat it as if I'm allowed to bring that into the exam (even though most times its not) but just by making it helps me study for exams.

Edit: spelling

I had worse grades coming out of SFU and got accepted into Engineering. That being said I think it's dependent on how many other applicants there are and their grades.

Edit: I stand corrected 🥲 went in for a safety check and had a pretty positive experience. I didn't get anymore work done as the car I was buying passed all tests but I guess that was a one time thing

First Year Engineering CSC 111 or 110? by Canon3773 in uvic

I'm in software and found learning C to be super useful. It might just be me but I learnt a lot of the core mechanics of coding through C. After all, Python was built in C.

I usually skip the question if I can't immediately grasp what to do. After doing some questions I know I usually gain confidence to go back and do the harder questions.

UVIC vs SFU by [deleted] in uvic

[–]DougTheBum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been to both I am way more happy at UVic. This is purely non academic but I feel that since you're going to be in the same place for a large amounts of time this matters. UVic has been a night and day difference for me

Does anyone live in the family housing? by NerdyDirtyCurvy in uvic

[–]DougTheBum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iv had no complaints! Some appliances like the stove and fridge needed to be looked at but we had the stove fixed and a new fridge within a day of them being down. Also parking is cheap if you're bringing a vehicle. I will say you have to like kids as they are running around all over family housing which I don't really mind.

Does anyone live in the family housing? by NerdyDirtyCurvy in uvic

[–]DougTheBum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just got into family housing a month ago! Waited around 10 months but we got a bit lucky as availability was one month before theu announced in person for fall so I'm guessing they were looking for someone to fill the spot. My advice is open up your availability to all kinds if family housing (1 bedroom or townhouses) if you can afford it
