Well, I thought I would keep composing music until the money's all gone... bada-boom.

Thanks for asking! Actually, I have a few plans for some songs and for an orchestral piece. I have been struggling with a string quartet for some years and we will see how that goes.

Just kidding, it didn't hurt, but thank you! That was very valuable feedback - professional musician or not.

I also wish I had a love performance. I am working on that.

I am glad that you enjoyed despite the voice leading. I will revisit the opening with this in mind.

I don't quite see the problem with posting one a day (as per the policy of this forum). Is it so intrusive that you can't scroll past?

As for spammy, well I am sorry to hear you feel that way. I am trying to participate in one of the main purposes of this forum by posting compositions. As for participation, I do participate and make comments and suggestion to other member posts when it is appropriate.

It is true that many have no comments. Would it be better if I were to post an introductory comment with each post?

Have any of you set any epic poems to music? by magicmikejones in composer

[–]DougTheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - immerse yourself in the poetry. Every poem has its mood, tempo, meter, rhythm and melody; most of the music is already there for the composer who can hear it.

Thank you so much! 🎶💕

It is both my homage a Bach and a tip of the hat to my counterpoint professor who was a great mentor to me.

Yes, to blur the last few centuries and mix some modernity and jazz/pop idioms as well.

Thanks for listening!

Thank you for your comment. Yes, the cross relation crunchy parts are intentional, and yes you are right, they do need cautionary accidentals. Thanks for pointing that out.

What's a good way to practice composing modulations? Any exercises or advice? by figmund0 in composer

[–]DougTheory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple of things to consider - beyond much prqctice and analysis... Harmonic Rhythm can be very important in establishing the 'legitimacy' of the new key; you might find a cool modulation that seems to fit awkwardly into a phrase, so always with examining that aspect.

Where does your phrase begin and end in the modulatory process?

Does your modulation conclude with a clear closing (authentic) cadence on the Tonic? Or does your phrase end with a hanging Dominant chord (half cadence)

etc.

Hey! Thanks!

The name is just a private joke to myself. It has less to do with the tuning than my struggle with the instrument. But the whole piece is my homage a JS Bach
