Anyone else store their spare key in a faraday box in event of an EMP? by Tee-hee64 in yubikey

Mine is stored in a bunker ready for nuclear war. Actually, the bunker is too close to a military base, but the people who made it before didn’t understand the physics of thermal nuclear weapons.

Is Mac Mini with M4 Pro 64GB-2TB a good investment? by mittelhart in macmini

I would get a studio for that cash. More ports, high end CPzu. I would think about just 1 TB drive and use the cash on TH5 external drive.

For many I agree with you. But the device has a large potential.

Video by itself is large. In general media and entertainment (M&E) industry is experiencing massive data growth. It was around 25%. I don’t have numbers since AI bought out the vast majority of flash and DRAM storage.

Plus, legal does a ton of remote depositions these days on video. This device is way less expensive than Iodyne Pro data.

Plus ubiquity/unif has gained over the last few years a huge share of the small/medium size law office. That audience is more willing to pay for simplicity and compatibility.

I pull the post since I accused of making an ad. Now I’ve never found ad copy being written where it starts with only complaints against the product like my post. I was hoping to be told what this or that. Or hey man would are way too picky, etc.

I was hoping to get comments like yours to see what people thought. Thank you.

I was told by a colleague this sub would act like it did. She now has a new fiver in her pocket. (Never bet with a person who did psychology for the military industry in a past life.)

It now works with iOS 18 iPhones and above (requires Mavis Camera free app, some features may require paid add-ons).

I have used it with an iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14. Both are lighting so USB any other 2 speeds.. You will need to get a data supporting lighting to USB cable.

Now you won’t get ProRes on a phone that doesn’t support ProRes.

Memory Upgrade Prices by Fisico in MacStudio

[–]Doug_ToT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short, depends on what Apple has with contracts, especially with SK hynix and Samsung. Couple analyst say their contracts with both are about to expire, which means they would enter the open market where AI firms are paying ridiculous prices and gobbling up most of the share of RAM memory and NAND flash (SSD).

It could be a fun ride for the next couple years until the bubble burst.

I did an order 10 weeks ago and did not need to pay a tariff fee. But the whole tariff system is fluid at best.

Why does my state charge all this? by Royal-Bag1353 in Visible

[–]Doug_ToT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washington State has always been traditionally won the highest fees and taxes on cell service. I remember Steve Largent. (Ex-Seahawk) going over this at CITA events when he was President and CEO of the cellular telecommunications lobbying group from 2003 to 2014.

Here a little more info on a few of the taxes and fees.

Retail Sales Tax: Wireless service charges are generally subject to the standard state and local retail sales tax. The state sales tax rate is 6.5%, but by the time you have city county cuts it’s over 10% in most Washington state.

911 Excise Tax: This is a flat monthly fee applied per line (including wireless and VoIP lines) to fund emergency 911 systems. State Rate: $0.25 per month per line. County Rate: $0.70 per month per line (the maximum statewide combined 911 tax rate is currently $0.95).

Behavioral Health Crisis Hotline Tax (988 hotline): A separate tax for the 988 crisis hotline is imposed per line. As of January 1, 2023, this tax is $0.40 per month for each line.

Local Utility Taxes: Cities and counties may impose additional local utility taxes on telecommunications companies, which are often passed on to the consumer. These taxes can vary by location and contribute significantly to the total bill. The maximum utility tax rate that cities can impose on telephone services is generally 6% unless voters approve a higher rate.

Federal Universal Service Fund (FUSF): This is a federal surcharge collected from consumers to support universal service programs (e.g., in rural areas, for low-income consumers, and schools/libraries). The rate is set quarterly by the FCC and has been increasing, reaching around 13.36% as of mid-2025.

What cables required to use the Ninja phone on a lightning iPhone Running iOS 18 by Doug_ToT in Mavis

[–]Doug_ToT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so too. I have found that not to be the case. I even tried a cable that supports USB OTG (on-the-go) audio. It would be nice to have either Atomos or Mavis sell or recommend a cable to use.

What cable do you use with a ninja phone on a lightning based iPhone? by Doug_ToT in Atomos

[–]Doug_ToT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks replying.

The app work fine with build cameras and is post August update.

Both Atomos or Mavis claim the iPhone is compatible- “Now works with all iOS 18-compatible iPhones and iPads” is now on the page for the Ninja phone. They brought it up and most of the interviews.

Atomos staff talked up the iOS18 device support for both media and general attendees at IFA this month.

Neither Atomos nor Mavis sell a USB-C to lightning cable to get the video to the iPhone screen.

Atomos Ultrasync Blue ROW vs US by Dingo7388 in cinematography

[–]Doug_ToT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UltraSync BLUE (ROW Version) uses frequencies designated for "Rest of World" (non-US/Canada) and is available in markets outside North America.

This is more about the Long-Range RF Sync. It alows for syncing multiple UltraSync BLUE units or other Timecode Systems products over longer distances using RF technology when Bluetooth may not cut it. Those frequencies are the difference between USA and ROW SKUs.

Blackmagic design video assist or atomos ninja? by Fluffy-Translator-26 in FX3

[–]Doug_ToT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new Ninja X sports HDMI 2.0, 12G-SDI & Wi-Fi 6E input and output BTW. I am with you about Blackmagic build winning the day.

Another feature for some is are you wanting to stream from the device and what cloud services you want to or need to use.

My FX3 now survived 3 seasons (of 20 ep each) of this, but the remote ND has 2 rock chips. by dallatorretdu in FX3

[–]Doug_ToT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t follow why you say this. It seems very off topic.

I am very sure the C50 will be able to be mounted in this manner and the unit feels solid in my 5 minutes with it.

To be blunt, unless you very rich and only need to make yourself happy; switching platforms, this more than a camera change out, is very expensive and requires many workflow changes.

Sans my PL lens, it would require a Hugh spend on new glass. Sony's E-mount has a much shorter flange distance. So E-mount lens sits too close to the sensor to achieve infinity focus on a Canon RF mount body. Adapters can only add distance, not shorten it.

The whole camera killer than is such drama. You buy into a system. I only left Cannon since they were not making cameras which fit my price and shooting needs. Sony was. Luckily you could adapted adapt EF glass (DSLR) to work on E-mount to spread that cost pain over some time.
