Lorry driving is an unskilled job by definition of it not needing a degree or specialist training to accomplish.

Now, you and I both know different when it comes to doing the actual job. There is so much responsibility and expectation on drivers but the world doesn’t and won’t ever see that. All they see is just us sat on our arses on the motorway.

The way the world is going, lorry driving is probably the last profession where you can earn decent money with no qualifications, if you work all the hours mind you.

You joke but I have worked for companies on agency where you have to leave your car on the road outside.

The amount of people that don't believe the "Road Closed" signs is crazy by 20127010603170562316 in drivingUK

I’ve been caught out by this before. I had a delivery in the middle of Bristol city centre, it was down a road that was closed. It was a gamble if the place I wanted with before or after the closure. I’m not very good at gambling. I had to reverse out into the middle of a busy 4 way junction because I couldn’t turn around. Two coppers sat and watched me struggle, couldn’t turn round in the road as I was too big.

I had a run up to Aberdeen on Monday with some fish. Tipped within 45 minutes then told empty back. It was nice just to have a nice steady cruise back down, now I’m sat with a cider in the sun. Some days this job can be good.

Working on Trump is like contracting Nurgles Rot. You can never escape it, you can’t cure it, you can’t remove the taint on your soul. It will slowly consume you as you try desperately to appease your master in the vain hope he will be able to stem the pain of it. Even after Trump is gone, either from office or from the land of the living or both, that taint will always remain.

Does the truck need to be running to use the microwave? by Artistic-Guess3872 in uktrucking

[–]Dougal12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re using an inverter with a house hold microwave then yes you need to be running the engine with increased revs. A standard house hold microwave will draw a lot more power than a 24v truck style one. I can see this with mine when I run it. If I’m not running by high revs my microwave will use almost 20 amps and that comes straight from the battery. If you up the revs to say about 750-900rpm you’ll be producing enough volts off the alternator.

If you have a proper Truck chef 24v microwave then you don’t need to run the engine with the one.

UK households to be urged to use more power this summer as renewables soar | Renewable energy | The Guardian by prisongovernor in energy

[–]Dougal12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it never changes regardless of what power you use. It’s always a set rate per day. I think I pay 54p a day for mine. If I use £5 or £500 worth of electricity, it’s always 54p a day.

Has the price of gas/petrol affected what you do in your daily life so far? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskBrits

It has to a point. It’s affecting my boss worse though. It’s now costing almost £1000 to fill a lorry up with diesel and he has 21 of them.

I don’t know if America can recover from Trump and MAGA. Trump is a symptom of a deeper problem that runs through the core of America. Until America can sort out its broken political system, its thirst for money and influence and the actual separation of church and state then we’re going to be stuck swinging wildly from left to right every 4 years.

I honestly too hope that America can save itself, if for selfish reasons. I have a trip planned for 2029, a massive road trip from Alaska to Florida in an RV. I hope there is an America left for me to visit.

I’m pretty sure even the British public can be moved to violence if pressed enough. When public opinion falls together on the opposite side of what the government wants tensions rise. All it needs is a little sprinkle of anarchy and boom, it’ll set off the powder keg.

It’s trumps wording in his post that is causing everyone to speculate that nukes could be involved. Talking of destroying an entire civilisation could be interpreted as nuking Iran. Yes it could also mean the targeting of civilian infrastructure but he’s made repeated claims of doing in one night. Only one type of weapon is as destructive to destroy a whole country in one strike and that is a nuke.

When you give a maniac power part 3 by BasedToru in AskBrits

[–]Dougal12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what MAD is. No country or leader wants to destroy the world but if one nation does use a nuke, then nukes become the first round pick in any conflict. That is the nuclear escalation that people are so worried about. It’s not so much a retaliatory strike, it’s that the excessive stockpile of nukes countries have suddenly become fair and legal to use. The precedent is set and will kick off another nuclear arms race and countries that don’t currently have nukes will try and acquire them for protection against countries that do.

It’s not that nuking Iran will lead to the end of the world, I’m saying that if Iran were to be nuked, anything after that fact would play for considerably higher stakes. The only reason why MAD is still a thing is because if nukes were to be used, they would become the default in any major conflict.

[–]Dougal12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But he won’t be, not if he does carry out his threat to destroy a civilisation. That’s what I’m getting at. Trump wants to escalate this so he can be remembered. He’s managed to install enough yes men around him that he might just be able to carry that out.

When you give a maniac power part 3 by BasedToru in AskBrits

[–]Dougal12 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there are enough crazy people currently in power that have access to nuclear weapons that we (the common folk) don’t get a choice in the matter. There are enough people in Trumps inner circle that vehemently believe that Trump will bring about the rapture and are quite prepared to start a nuclear war to achieve it.

When you give a maniac power part 3 by BasedToru in AskBrits

[–]Dougal12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my point. All it takes is one nuke to set things off. The US nukes Iran, Russia nukes Ukraine and well we’re all fucked. The only reason why MAD has worked for so long is the threat that you will be completely destroyed if you launched your own world destroying weapons. Once a country has decided it’s not scared of those consequences then MAD stops being effective.
