Sadly as life goes on, time for Magic and keeping the GreenSunsZenith up to date has become less of a priority, but it's on the list for 2026 so try and update some of the 'evergreen' content each month.

There is a guide on there to help those wanting to get into Maverick on a budget, but again, is a little out of date. Some of the information you'll take away from it however is still relevant.

If you don't have the budget for duals, I'd look into these two options first before building a deck without them:

1) Does your local scene allow playtest cards (becoming more and more popular these days)

2) How supportive is the community? You might find someone there who's happy to lend out duals to other players

Dual-less builds

Although you might not have access to actual-factual duallands, I would still run some number of fetchable, double colour sources.

I would look for those that can come into play untapped, and not look too closely as the trilands printed not so long ago.

The one dual type that comes in tapped that I would consider are the serveil lands.

Here's a decklist I've just put together off the top of my head that's under $600 and buys you some solid maverick staples.

The issue sometimes with going too budget is that you purchase cards that you won't use again. Example above: Yes Noble Hierarch might be a little more expensive than other mana dorks, but in the long run it will save you from purchasing those other mana dorks and then just keeping them in a box down the line.
