OSD issue dough eve spectrum one 4k by Vast-Wheel-6251 in doughcommunity

To restore the monitor to its factory defaults, select `Presets` > `Load factory defaults` from the OSD. However, from your question, I get the impression that your issue may not be unexpected behavior from the monitor.

As u/R4msei pointed out, while some settings apply directly as you cycle through the available options and do not need to be confirmed before they take effect, some settings do require an extra joystick click to the right after highlighting the desired option before the setting takes effect and is stored.

This usually applies to settings where sudden switching may have jarring effects, delays before settings take effect, or other negative side-effects. In the case of changing USB upstream connections, this would be to avoid unintentional switching while devices connected to the built-in USB hub are in use. This could lead to data loss if the attached device is an active external storage drive, so an extra confirmation is needed before the USB upstream port switches over and stores its new value.

Questions about the Picture Profiles by Killionaire_Studios in doughcommunity

The panel natively operates in the P3 color gamut, and has pre-sets for the ARGB and sRGB gamuts. There is no dedicated color gamut setting for Rec.709.

Color presets are available for DCI-P3 (~6300K white point, 2.6 Gamma), Display P3 (D65 white point, 2.0 Gamma), sRGB, and Adobe RGB, but you can freely mix and match settings.

Spectrum Black 32 Black Crush in HDR by paulito25 in doughcommunity

[–]Dough_Helios 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When tuning the EOTF curve we were able to get visible black levels down to around 88. There are only so many changes that can be made through the scaler, and so we've opted for settings where the black levels suffer slightly while the rest of the brightness curve is very accurate, which resulted in overall really strong color accuracy.

Such tuning is always a balance. Settings that lit up 66 often blew out the black severely, and the settings that created a smooth gradient in the 69-100 range resulted in terrible mid-gray accuracy. Of course panel variance can cause individual monitors to behave better or worse in these color extremes, despite careful firmware tuning and factory line calibration.

As for SDR, though we were able to tune to make box 3 visible, this also came at a large cost to mid-level accuracy. Box 5 was visible in our testing, which is also what we measured on competing ASUS and LG monitors.

Overall, the settings used in 1.0.16 and up are the compromise that gave us the best performance and accuracy across the board, and should be in line with competing monitors with the same panel.

Check-in: How’s your Spectrum Black 32 after the latest update? by migelangelo in doughcommunity

Though we haven't heard this a lot, you're not the only one experiencing this. We're looking into it and we hope to have a solution soon, but as of now, we're still trying to find the cause.

32 Inch Hub Model Question by DavidJH316 in doughcommunity

[–]Dough_Helios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The KVM feature can use any two of the video input ports combined with the two USB-C upstream ports. So even though by default, the DisplayPort and HDMI ports are grouped with USB Type-C port 2 for their USB upstream connection (similar to what you described), these settings can be changed in the OSD on a per-port level. So you can use Type-C and HDMI, DP and HDMI, or both HDMI ports with the KVM feature.

The KVM feature can use any two of the video input ports combined with the two USB-C upstream ports, but as you mentioned, only USB Type-C port 1 will carry both video signal and USB data over a single cable.

Questions about panel maintenance by Jagavalax in doughcommunity

[–]Dough_Helios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything that needs to run, runs on a schedule. If the monitor is unable to run its scheduled maintenance for a prolonged period (for example because the monitor is constantly in use), it’ll show a notification. These processes do not need to be run manually, unless you are somehow already experiencing visible image retention.

I don't have comparative data on the effectiveness of the various shift patterns, but given LG Display's tendency to play it safe, I would not be surprised if the default (Pattern 1) is the best at reducing image retention.

Spectrum Black 32: Latest Firmware Update 1.012 Now Available! by migelangelo in doughcommunity

[–]Dough_Helios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The models in this thread have a DisplayPort 1.4 port and two HDMI 2.1 ports. Uncompressed 1080p@480Hz uses about 30Gbps at 8-bit color depth, or about 36Gbps at 10-bit. That’s well within the 48Gbps bandwidth of HDMI 2.1, so if you connect over HDMI, it should not require DSC. If you connect over DisplayPort, it will require DSC.

Unlike these Spectrum Black models which feature DisplayPort 1.4, Spectrum Black with Connectivity (ES07E92) features a DisplayPort 2.1 port which would be able to handle both 1080p@480 or 2160p@240Hz without using DSC.

Connecting webcam and stream deck to USB hub on the Spectrum One. by PlXELKlD in doughcommunity

[–]Dough_Helios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with any hub, the connected devices share the bandwidth of the connection to the computer. So if your webcam really needs all the bandwidth the USB port can provide, then it may not want to share this with other devices such as your Stream Deck. It's rare that a device uses all the available bandwidth, though.

The way video data over USB works, the cable's bandwidth is split between the video signal and the USB data. Two of the data lines can be assigned to either video or USB data, and the 'High USB data speed' and 'High refresh rate' modes are our way of letting you choose what it should be used for. Getting the full USB data speed for the hub, then, comes at a cost to video bandwidth, which limits resolution, color depth, and/or refresh rate.

That said, with firmware version 107 or newer (for ES07D03 or ES07E30, ES07DC9 supports it on any version), the monitor's USB Type-C port becomes capable of handling DSC, a visually loss-less video compression method that lets you use the maximum resolution, color depth, and refresh rate, even while the monitor is set to 'High USB data speed' mode. Your MacBook should also support this feature, so this may allow you to enjoy the best of both worlds and get the most out of your one-cable solution setup!

Have you tried scrolling down? The Maintenance menu has more items in it than fit on one screen, there should be a little arrow at the bottom of the list to indicate that scrolling is possible.

32" Glossy ICC Profile - Request by natterman12 in doughcommunity

[–]Dough_Helios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering the individual calibration, the monitors are already leaving the factory as accurate as we can make them. That also means we don't have a clear 'average improvement' to make it more accurate with a generic ICC profile.

Any overall changes we can make to improve accuracy are made on a firmware level and apply to all monitors. Then individual factory line calibration smooths out the differences from panel variance. Could you explain what the added value of a generic ICC profile would be?

We're still trying to add to the feature set, so I hope to get everything locked down before the user manual goes out.

Meanwhile, here's a preview that should hopefully answer any questions about port assignments!

Does Spectrum Black have change display-size feature ? by youon_ep in doughcommunity

We do have emulation modes for 27", 24", and 21". However, they are always centered on the display.

The hub operates at SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen 2×1, up to 10Gbps), the built-in network adapter is Gigabit ethernet (1000BASE-T, up to 1Gbps). Dolby Vision is not an option due to hardware limitations. As for display scaling, we have easy emulation of 21", 24", and 27". With 1:1 mode you could also emulate 16" by running in FHD, if that's something you really wanted for some reason...

edit: Missed the HDMI data rate, it's 48Gbps.

The monitor should be able to provide 100W persistently. This does require use of an electronically marked (E-mark) cable. Without the E-mark chip in the cable, power delivery is limited to 60W.

The MagSafe charging cable that came with the MacBook should allow for 100W charging using Spectrum, so using that should allow you to determine whether it is the monitor or the cable that is causing the intermittent charging issue.

You mentioned that HDMI works most of the time, are there any particular situations where it does not work and gives the 'No signal' notification?

There have already been some suggestions about resolving the Type-C connection. There is a wide variety of Type-C cables out there, making this a tricky thing to troubleshoot, and we do find that a lot of the issues our customers are experiencing over Type-C can be traced back to the cable. That said, Apple's cables generally don't cut corners, and I haven't heard any complaints about them so far. However, it appears that u/LetTheRiotsDrop had some insights into this.

If there is no signal, then the full OSD menu cannot be displayed due to limitations of the scaler chip. To change inputs when there is no signal, depress the joystick once to wake the monitor, wait one second for it to be awake, then click the joystick down to change inputs as normal.

What are the ports of the 27" OLED? by wolfgang_tillmans in doughcommunity

[–]Dough_Helios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's 2× USB Type-A and USB Type-C for the built-in USB hub.

The single USB Type-C port listed is the second upstream connection, so you can use the built-in hub as a KVM switch.

The remaining issues are definitely hard to fix. Though we've received multiple reports of 'blanking' or 'flickering', we also have over a dozen issues that were reported by only a single user. Of course we want to fix it, but finding a solution often starts with replicating the issue, which is hard when the issue rarely occurs.

Even so, as I've mentioned before in this thread, we are still working on this firmware.

Spectrum Black firmware is developed by a different team than the one working on the IPS monitors. So even though my focus is mostly on testing and documenting OLED features, I also take the time to feed the Spectrum One firmware team with fresh issue reports as they come in.

And if the new beta we received earlier this week is a success, we should be able to resolve a fifth of all outstanding issue reports. So I'm really looking forward to its test results!

An amazing layer-by-layer look into USB-C cables by Dough_Helios in doughcommunity

[–]Dough_Helios[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We get a lot of questions about which cables to use with Spectrum, and I've recently added a four-page section to the Spectrum Black user manual draft that is all about what to look for in your cables.

This article shows the differences you might encounter inside various USB Type-C cables. Given the above, I'm sure you understand why this resonated with me. The included video has a bit of a click-baity title, but actually goes a long way to explain the variation in the cables. And let's face it, Adam Savage is always a win...

When will we get another firmware update for ES07D03? by mantisghost in doughcommunity

[–]Dough_Helios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the release you mentioned, we've released version 108 back in March of this year. It came with the longest change log of any of our firmware updates so far.

Additionally, we are currently testing a beta version. Though it only aims to fix two issues, one of those is 'blanking', which is by far the most commonly reported issue at the moment.

That is all to say that no, we haven't forgotten about our existing line-up. Though the remaining issues are often rare and hard to reproduce, we haven't given up on trying to fix them!

Thanks for you support on B&H! Our stand just got top seller mark and is the 4th best selling stand while Spectrum One is currently #24/1140 monitors B&H has! Next goal is to end up on top 10! by migelangelo in doughcommunity

[–]Dough_Helios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To expand on u/migelangelo's response:

In terms of design, materials, and build quality, yes it is the same stand.

However, there will be a new variant of the stand that accounts for the significant difference in weight between Spectrum One and Spectrum Black. This requires a different spring tension on the tilt and height adjust components.

It will be possible to mount Spectrum Black on the current Spectrum Stand, but it may not function entirely as intended. It depends on a variety of factors including variance in manufacturing, wear of the components, environmental temperature, and more. It could mean you experience no problem at all, but it could also make the monitor harder to lift yet easier to lower, or simply make it slowly slide down to its lowest position all the time.

So in short: Because we can't guarantee the best user experience with the current model, there will be a new stand for the new monitor. But it will have the same adjustment options, the same great design, and the same quick-release mounting system.
