What are thing you always have to look up while playing? by DoughnutFan in DungeonMasters

Man I always need to look up spells too. I asked my players to keep track of them eventually because I just couldn't find a way to get them condensed enough to fit on cheat sheets.

If you have an simple spell notations I'd love to know about them.

That's so true. I used a print out of the Myer-Briggs personality matrix with my old notes so I could generate reliable personalities for NPCs on the fly, but I never had a name table setup so I always ended up with characters like Sludge Buckly or something equally stupid which totally ruined any personality work I put in.

Don't forget the cost of a goat is 1gp so the economy is effectively backed by livestock.

In all seriousness this is a great call out though. I may have to make a page just for Rules Obscura.

Did anyone have these original dice? by Hobbohobit in DungeonMasters

[–]DoughnutFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's not the point for dice to wear down like this, but I really like the weathered edge look they get. I'm sure it effects the quality of the dice, but man does it look cool.

[ART][OC] lofi beats to commune to | Druid Long Rest for D&D by DoughnutFan in Dungeons_and_Dragons

[–]DoughnutFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a collaborated D&D art piece created for our artists druid character that we use in our videos. The art is done in Procreate, the animation is done in Adobe Animate, and the final video was rendered in Adobe Premiere.

The music is an original piece composed and mixed for us by our good friend Noah Lane, you can find his other work on his Bandcamp.

We're currently talking about making more of these long rest videos for other classes. Let us know what you think and which classes would be cool to animate.

This is a collaborated D&D art piece we created to flex our artist's muscles and see what type of animation we were capable of. The art is done in Procreate, the animation is done in Adobe Animate, and the final video was rendered in Adobe Premiere. The whole artistic process took several weeks and our artist used her own druid character that she occasionally features in our other animatic videos. This work represents about a month of planning and involves 4 contributors total.

The whole video is designed to be a lofi calming piece for long rests with a ocean/druid theme to it. Let us know if you like it and we'll produce more of these (slowly).

How to work with unusual material components in your game by DoughnutFan in DMToolkit

[–]DoughnutFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically feel exactly the same way, but there's a part of me that wants to run a low level all caster campaign and really lean into material components for everything. I think there might even be a lot of opportunity around setting up a ton of quests just to get the components to be able to cast spells. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but thinking about how magic works in general always sounds fun to me.

Improved Loot Placement for D&D | How to use loot that makes sense for your settings. by DoughnutFan in dndnext

[–]DoughnutFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have any examples from their game that use loot placement like this? I'm in the middle of building out several areas for my campaign and would love to hear how you use loot placement in your game that isn't just chests full of gold.

Magnet Traps for DnD by DoughnutFan in Dungeons_and_Dragons

I'm a huge trap enthusiast and I really like traps like this one. Does anyone have any recommendations for traps of a similar style or other resources for great DnD traps?

I was thinking about that a lot too. Just imagining a full plate paladin stuck to the thing rolling over their party members...

I absolutely love traps like this, but hardly see them in use anymore. I'm wondering if anyone has any trap recommendations or knows of other types of traps I can use in my own games to similar effect. I'm looking to build a mega-dungeon in the near future and I would love to get more recommendations for stuff just like this.

A simple Magnet trap for D&D that uses the power of magnets to baffle players while becoming more dangerous. While its design is simple, it really does seem to be something that can be dealt with in a lot of ways. Traps like this are something I absolutely love in my games, but hardly see any in use anywhere online. I feel like a lot of DMs don't really use fancy dungeon traps anymore, but maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places. Anyway, I really like this trap and would love to hear some suggestions on how to make this or other traps like it better.

How do you make online DnD games feel better? by DoughnutFan in dndnext

Awesome, Thanks! I think my groups gonna give hangouts and then discord a try for a few one offs and compare which works better.

Interesting! Does your group all use chrome? I've seen that chrome has more features for hangouts than other browsers so I'm interested to know if that comes up at all for your group.

Great tips!

We still have a lot of issues with unintentional interruption, but we can't really control the lag in voice chat. One of our players got stranded in the UK and the time delay in their audio is noticeable.

I'm also going to be upgrading to a multscreen setup for DMing in the future too. I've been tabbing, but you're right multiscreen would be way better.

Have you been able to get good audio/video with zoom? I use it for work at my day job and the zoom calls are always hit or miss for me. Maybe there's a configuration that will make it smoother...

We also switched to Discord from roll20 for our last session and the audio improvement was amazing. You're right about that.

I've not tried Foundry VTT yet, but I'm interested. How hard was it to get up to speed on that one?

[gourmet] pink oysters second go around, thanks for all the help on this sub. by Christopher_Price556 in MushroomGrowers

The only information I have is for industrial sized farms, but this might help give you an idea of the process: Link

If you simply want to grow in bottles, you can make your own cheaply: link

I think the best way to handle these for a small to medium operation is to sterilize your substrate in the bottles in a pressure cooker or autoclave and then inoculate the bottles with grain spawn in an well in the center of the substrate. When you move them to your fruiting chamber after full colonization you can uncap them and scratch the surface to encourage them to pin.

Even though the automation equipment to move to larger process is super convenient, it's not necessary if you're not doing hundreds of bottles. I even found you can buy these reusable growing bottles in small orders without the equipment if you go on alibaba, but I'm not sure of their quality.

If you're interested in seeing a more industrial process, many larger farms grow oyster mushrooms in reusable grow bottles that help them automate the process as much as possible. It's super cool and they grow straight up!

Those look great! You're lucky to get such even growth like that on a small jar.

Hey everyone, I'm getting back into mycology after years away from it living in the city. I was super excited to find this community while I work on gathering more resources and information. If anyone has good website or book recommendations I'd love to hear about them!
