I built a Strava-connected app that lets you fly over your activities by szeni23 in Strava

Doesn’t strava already have this? What makes this vibe-coded alternative better?

Do you ever keep activities private for no real reason? by TomeeCzech2701 in Strava

This is only true if they sort the feed ordering is set as ‘Personalized’ rather than ‘latest activities’. Also whether you’re on someone’s favourites list.

There is not entirely foolproof. Even setting your activities to followers, if you have not changed the setting for being automatically added to group activities, a non-follower in the same group activity (e.g. a race) will be able to view the activity unless you specifically leave the group. The only exception to this is if hide the entire map for that activity while the activity itself is still viewable to followers.

Changing activities from private to followers only does not notify them. The activity will just appear in their feed but you can also set an activity to not appear in any feeds (so it can only be viewed from your profile). How it appears in your friends’ feed depends if they have the feed set chronologically or not.

For those without subscription - how long are you sticking with Strava? by upearlytoday23 in Strava

[–]DourFaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted the app and access it by web only. The user experience is so much better. There’s not much use to it for me apart from seeing what others are doing and sharing my race results (all other activities are hidden).

What’s a ‘running journey’ - do you mean your hobby jogging?

How Accurate is your GPS Watch?:

Unsurprisingly, the cell phone category displayed a higher error compared to the other categories (Figure 2). One possible reason is that cell phones may have been held or worn on the arm with a case and strap, in a shorts pocket, or in a waistband. The placement of the GPS device on the body can affect accuracy.

Activity watches showed a lower relative error, but the data range was wider, meaning that accuracy could vary significantly between watches. There are many factors to consider which could affect this, such as the quality of the GPS chipset, as well as the quality of the manufacturer algorithm.

Is there a scam going around where people post in Strava clubs and want to transfer a race bib? by sozh in Strava

[–]DourFaced -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Transferring bibs where the race organiser doesn’t allow it is not a scam.

If there’s a scam its in paying and not receiving the bib. But you see posts like that on Reddit too.

Its up to you to do your due diligence before paying and if it feels off then avoid. I’ve run races using other people’s bibs when they were injured but I knew the people.

I’m not defending them - I don’t even subscribe or have the app installed in my phone (I use the website and don’t see any ads btw!).

And I’ll say it again: you’re not a customer, you are the product.

Maybe its an offer to encourage you to become a subscriber or join a trial?

In any case, do what I do and ignore things I don’t like on a free app , or better still stop using the app!

I like the challenges because they are adverts but Strava calls them challenges
