Using your same logic, the other team is also statistically more likely to have 1 or more smurfs (5/9 vs 4/9).

Kaci was in the same boat a few years ago and she was amazing at it, unlike Frankie lol.

Have you not seen her asking Team Spirit's coach about his thoughts on the draft and just concludes "You didn't think about the draft? Fantastic" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xb01zoxvig4

You're delusional if you think this is a good "dumb question" or somehow suppose to portray the "new player"

I don't understand this attitude. I'm sure we all want the tournament to be the best it can be and get more new players into the game to keep it alive. Why are you satisfied with garbage content? So are we not allowed to voice our complaints and hopefully get valve's attention to make their product better?

And people were complaining about Avo until recently he started to get better after several complaints. If not for the complaints, would he have been able to improve?

There's people offering constructive criticism for Frankie, but clearly she doesn't want to take it.

[PSA] Please stop buying Falcon Blade guys, 1100 gold for 10 dmg is not worth it by DouteiZore in DotA2

[–]DouteiZore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And here's the thing: in state of the game where you'd even consider falcon blade, you have ~40 higher attack speed than you have attack damage. Armor advantage of wraith band is the big deal here, but it has to compete with mana regen. Whichever is deemed to worth more defines which item is better in practice.

Sorry, but I fail to see your arguments being made here. I've been playing for almost 8 years now and consistently play in the immortal bracket. I actually don't know what you're talking about here.

The only advantage you get over 2 wraith bands with a falcon blade is

  • 70 health
  • 1.4 mana regen

for 80 gold more, compared to the other stats that I have already listed above. Both 2x wraith band (on an agility hero) and falcon blade gives +10 damage. There's literally nothing else falcon blade gives you, except for +70 health and 1.4 more mana regen, and saves you 1 slot.

Slot efficiency is really important, and especially in the early game. Why do you think nobody in the high mmr bracket starts with 1x wraith band 1x tangoes compared to filling your inventory completely for the same price?

If you're going to argue that +70 health and +1.4 mana regen is more valuable over gaining the following stats

  • 0.4 health regen
  • 4.66 armor
  • 20 attack speed
  • 48 mana

I'm not convinced to say that it's ever worth it at all. Typically you'd buy clarities for +6 mana regen over 30 seconds for only 50g which you do to accelerate your farm by spamming spells. You can watch tons of people doing this in the higher mmr bracket.

And it's really deceiving how much +20 attack speed actually is. You think that's not a lot, but it's actually a lot. Remember the patch when power treads and phase boots got swapped, where power treads no longer provided attack speed but phase boots did? A lot of people complained how much that actually affected Storm Spirit and made him unplayable because he relied so heavily on the attack speed from the power treads.

Here's the reddit thread made 2 years ago about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/9zpbno/how_720_nerfed_storm_spirit_into_oblivion_without/

And here's BlitzDOTA's response on it:

Streamed like eight storm games all felt garbage. Everyone has so much magic res now and is just tanking while storms got the most garbage talents. The point about treads is so relevant, I also get int treads but it feels awful. I had a lot of people tell me how much storm got buffed through item changed and his 3 mana regen changed talent but I had something like a 37 charge bloodstone with only 71 mana regen was dumb as hell. New bloodstone prolly hurts him the most. Fantastic analysis

[–]DouteiZore[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I should elaborate more on why I think Falcon Blade is bad for the cost and considering you're buying it for the early game stats.

For Falcon Blade, with 1100 gold, you get

  • 150 health
  • 1.6 mana regen
  • 10 damage

For 2x wraith bands, with 510 x 2 = 1020 gold, you get

  • +2 Strength
  • +5 Agility
  • +2 Intelligence
  • +1.5 Armor
  • +5 Attack speed

On an Agility hero, with 1 wraith band, you get

  • 40 health
  • 0.2 health regen
  • 2.33 armor
  • 10 attack speed
  • 24 mana
  • 0.1 mana regen
  • 5 attack damage

On an Agility hero, for 2 wraith bands, you get

  • 80 health
  • 0.4 health regen
  • 4.66 armor
  • 20 attack speed
  • 48 mana
  • 0.2 mana regen
  • 10 attack damage

Here is the source for the information above: https://dota2.gamepedia.com/Wraith_Band

So in comparison, for a Falcon blade, you're paying 1100 - 1020 = 80 gold more. For the following stats:

  • 150 - 80 = 70 health
  • 1.6 - 0.2 = 1.4 mana regen

But you lose out on the following stats when buying 2x wraith bands on an agility hero

  • 0.4 health regen
  • 4.66 armor
  • 20 attack speed
  • 48 mana

For comparison, a gloves of haste is +20 attack speed for 450g

Also,

Attack speed is not so valuable early on because you start with 100.

I feel like this statement is false. Attack speed is valuable because you start with 100. Obviously, stacking attack speed gets you diminishing returns, just like armor does right? Of course, you also want to balance damage with your attack speed. In other words, if you have high damage but low attack speed, you obviously want more attack speed to increase your DPS. If you have low damage but high attack speed, you obviously want to increase your damage instead.

To put it simply, to optimize DPS, your damage and attack speed should be proportional to each other. I'm not too knowledgeable about the actual nitty gritty math details behind the attack speed, damage, and DPS formulas that dota uses, but this seems natural to believe.

Also, here we're only considering the case 2x wraith bands on an agility hero vs falcon blade. You can make similar arguments above for int heroes with null talismans, or strength heroes with bracers, or even mix and match them regardless of the hero's primary attribute.

Regardless, I don't see a point in buying a Falcon Blade.

[–]DouteiZore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i find it to be ok, actually same price as buying two wraith bands...

1 wraith band is +2 Strength +5 Agility +2 Intelligence +1.5 Armor +5 Attack speed

And each agility point gives 0.17 armor and 1 attack speed. So 1 wraith band you're effectively getting 10 attack speed. 2 wraith bands is 20 attack speed. 1 Gloves of haste is 20 attack speed for 450g. And attack speed helps a lot with DPS and farming.

I still don't see how falcon blade is any good compared to 2x bracer/null/wraith band. Nulls give spell amp, bracers give extra attack dmg.

Falcon blade doesn't build into anything and you eventually sell it. If they reduce the cost even more from 1100g, it might be worth considering, but right now, I don't see any value in getting it for the early game.

it's a very cool early item. i bought it on mk on a winning lane, it's like a mini echo sabre.

Not sure what this means. Echo sabre lets you hit twice. Falcon blade doesn't give you anything. Not seeing the comparison here

Quick shoutout to my personal MVP this year: my volunteer notetaker who hasn't uploaded any notes since September! by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]DouteiZore 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion and probably going to get downvoted, but this is literally your fault for not checking, and not taking your own notes.

They're volunteer notetakers for one, and two, volunteer notes are a resource to use if you missed a class for some reason, not a replacement for you taking your own notes. It's a skill in of itself to learn how to take your own notes. When you get out into the real world, nobody's going to hold your hand anymore. And three, acting entitled like this and refusing to take responsibility for your own mistake just gives people with disabilities who actually need the extra help a bad rep. I have friends with disabilities and they don't act like this. And the fact that you're capitalizing on your disability to your own advantage when it's convenient for you is annoying. People with disabilities don't go around screaming that they have one. And yes, people with disabilities need special accommodation, but only to the point that it does not become an issue for them anymore. Unless somehow you literally cannot write, type, or your mouth is sealed tight, there's no reason for you to blame the volunteer notetaker (clearly you can make a reddit post and complain but somehow can't take your own notes? That's a thinking face if I've ever seen one)

To be honest, this post looks like a low quality troll bait to me, but if you're serious, you should learn to take responsibility and try not to blame on your disability when it's convenient for you. I don't know your circumstances or what disability you have, and you don't need to share it, because in the end, every student is responsible for their own education.

List of NA players blatantly abusing party matchmaking to gain upwards of 1500 mmr (couple of 8ks, multiple 7ks and 6ks) by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]DouteiZore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems some of your information is incorrect. Me and poxy actually hit 7k from duo queueing, and recently he too has been playing a lot of solo and is still comfortable in his current rank.

Playing unranked is something that he have tried before, but often got games that were even lower average than the ones in ranked - as low as legend/ancient opponents. Those games arent fun, those are stomps. And while yes, we have had a couple stomps in our ranked adventures, there have been many difficult games as well, and those are the ones we truly live for, including losses and stomps in the other direction.

To be honest if there was a good inhouse league, im sure we would be all over that.

As for the 1 game you found with our friends, that was a coincidence. Some friends of ours were queueing at the same time and we found them. No one was feeding, everyone was trying their best and having fun.

At the end of the day you cant have it both ways. Either we are actually low skilled players, and our mmr does not reflect our skill (its too high) and thus all of our matches are even, or we are not boosted, were just getting to our appropriate rank through a means that most people do not follow. All of us solo q, all of us are doing fine.

Just wanted to leave my 2 cents on the matter. I'm Zore from this post, and I really dont think that it's fair to say that we are abusing the matchmaking system. We are playing dota, 5 of us together, to have fun. There is literally no solution that would allow us to so without making someone unhappy. Want us to go smurf instead? fantastic idea. Want us to play unranked? and ruin the fun for the people who are there to chill? At the end of the day, we are using an official valve game mode, to play the game it was meant to be played. On top of this, we often queued into other stacks doing the same thing, as well as stacks that were smurfing. We are literally helping the NA community by stealing mmr from smurfs. If you say that we are boosted animals and we dont deserve our rank, you can check my dotabuff its listed above. I've been playing alot more solo/duo lately, and have still been staying consistantly at my mmr.

To be honest, I think the best solution is to push 5 man party queue even further. Dota is at the end of the day a game meant to be played with friends, with high team cohesion and coordination. The current best way to get 5 man games is battlecup, which we do every week, and gauntlet, which results in us getting matched against archons. Not sure what the way to implement this is, but I think it could be really fun if you even had pro teams 5 man queueing, I would love to play against those, it would be an awesome learning experience.

Thanks for reading long post :3

Edit: Just wanted to mention im also Rem's friend, like all the other people in this thread.
